Here's what I set out to accomplish last month in keeping with my yearly goals and my 30 Before 30 goals and what I have planned for July.
1) Work on my relationship with God. Something really cool is happening. I have less of a desire to listen to non-gospel music (to the chagrin of some of those I love). I wanted to have a more than one year Bible-reading plan so I wouldn't try to rush through it. I decided to use Our Daily Bread as my jumping off point. I read the verses associated then read ODB, then the chapter or more. There are some great stories and I like to try to figure out how they apply to my life. The ones I REALLY don't understand, I look up a commentary for (usually Matthew Henry who I only discovered this month even though he did commentary on the ENTIRE BIBLE and died in the 1700s... I feel SO LATE! LOL). But it's very cool.
What was at first a, "Really??? Why does this chapter have 55 verses??? Let me pick a shorter one." is becoming, "I'll read that one and then the next one because I want to know what's next. Ooh! And I wanted to read more of Ecclesiastes! Let me go find that!" Anyway, I wanted to bring my total for the end of June up to 60 (partly because I had read more books than I thought I had). I read a lot faster than I expected. I got up to 84 chapters in 28 books. For July I want to get to at least 120 chapters read. There are enough stories I'm intrigued by that I'm okay not upping the number of books read.
2) Finish my film. I wanted to get our film festival submissions up to 10-- DONE!! This month we wait. We won't hear back from any until August, but the bulk we will hear back by September. SO CRAZY!!! So next month this goal won't be on the list anymore. Wow...
3) Take the next step in my career. I pitched my film (present it to a panel of executives from various television stations) at a film festival-- HUGE STEP!! I got some great feedback, learned, saw a lot of films & networked. My first film festival experience was a great one! I'm so excited that there are many more for me in the future!
4) Try new restaurants. Of course I did well with this. I always do. I want to cut back on this to save money but also by virtue of being in 2 cities where I haven't lived full time ever or in years (Charlotte and Atlanta), it's likely I'm going to be trying lots of new restaurants.
5) Cook at least 3xs a week, 2 of those new recipes. I am SO BACK!!! I've tried 4-6 new recipes EVERY WEEK!! So exciting!! I love it!! I love the trial and error, I love the successes, I even like (not love) the failures because I learn something. I really, REALLY like when people ask me for food advice or try recipes I recommended. SO COOL!! Recipes and reviews mostly with pictures are up on my food blog, The Record Dish, including my favorites this month, garlicky butternut squash, velvet potato purée, & south by southwest sliders.
6) Watch more movies. I'm up to 145 on the year. That means I still have plenty of time to get to 300 (about 180 days).
7) Workout more. I was shooting for 3xs a week and that didn't happen every week BUT I'm a lot closer & really excited about that!!
8) Statecations. As mentioned, I went to St. Augustine!! When I move to NC I'm going to carry over the statecations goal and make it double up on some of my 30 Before 30. For this month, no statecation goal. I'd kind of like to go to Augusta but I don't think that's going to happen.
9) Contact my grandma once a month. Last month I was supposed to finally send her a package of my stuff from graduation & screening that she'll love. I'll do it this month!! Very cool & exciting! :)

SURPRISE!!!
My mom's birthday surprise was AWESOME!!! I started planning months ago when my mom kept asking me when I was coming home. In the last week she asked me at least 4 times. It was really ridiculous. Even more so if you know my mom. Shej is all about people doing things in their own time. She NEVER talks to me about coming home. I'm like, "Really mom? What is your deal??" In my head, of course, all along I'm making plans.
So Sunday she asked when I'm coming home and I said, "Soon." Indignantly, she replied, "SOON?!?!? What does that mean?? Soon. Hmph. That could mean any time." I said, "Mom... that's the best I can do." Ooh chile. She did not like that! Hilarious! When I get on the road or in the car, the first person I think to call is my mom. It's free to talk to her and I enjoy it. This time I know I can't do that. I can't open a bag of chips without her saying, "WHAT'S ALL THAT NOISE???" It can really work my nerves!! If she answers the phone and I talk to her and she's on the road, she'll say, "Where are you going?" This woman hears everything!!!
But at soon as I get to my destination, she answers the phone and we talk for a while. I say, "Tomorrow is your birthday!! How excited are you??" She said, "You're more excited than I am." I said, "As usual!" She's never excited about her birthday. How boring! Then somehow WetWillie's comes up. She said, "I should go there tomorrow for my birthday!" I said, "OOOOH! You should! I wish I could go with you!" She said, "Me too! Why aren't you coming? You aren't doing anything but sitting around in Atlanta. You should come." I just sat there silently then whined, "Mooooom." She said, "What? You should be here. Don't make me come down to Atlanta." CRACKING UP! She says she's going to the movies after work, will probably go straight there. I start panicking a little. I get off the phone and go upstairs to enlist my sister in the mayhem. Fix it!
She calls my mom to ask her to dinner. My mom says she's going to the movies but she'll come home first to get Elaina and they can go together. I'm like, "Okay that's much better." So I drive to the neighborhood pool to hide my car and we wait. My mom drives up, walks in the house and I pop out and say, "SURPRISE!!!" She looked so stunned like, "Who's that??" Then the recognition & the, "Heeeey! Where's your car?" LOLOL! That's your first question? I start cracking up, jumping up and and down and squealing. Then I say, "And I have a special guest..." She's looking around when Stace jumps from behind the living room armchair. "SURPRISE!!" My mom goes, "Stacey! What are you doing here?!?" Stace says, "I came for your birthday!" M says, "Awwwwww!" She can't stop cheesing! It's so cute!
She had no idea I was coming! So funny and cute! Best birthday surprise ever!! And tonight I'm making her some fancy dinner from Tyler's Ultimate. She's gonna love it.

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 55
1) FB is doing the most. You can now like comments on statuses??? Liking statuses, okay, but liking the comments on the statuses??? Extra.
2) Locator updates make me nervous. Why do people need to know your location when you're mobile? Creepy.
3) How about there were screens on the plane where you could create playlists from cds. I made a great list from RiRi, Bey, Gaga and more of their ilk. Guess when I finished it? About 3 minutes before the pilot said we were 15 minutes from landing. Fail.
4) The film festival was SO COOL!! I can't wait until I can go to them as the filmmaker and hold my own Q&As! I saw some really great films. The film updates are coming later in the week seeing as I just needed a day to decompress yesterday!
5) People and their impatience, man. People were crowded at the plane's gates to board before everyone got off the plane from the previous flight. Then they stood in the way like they didn't have seats already. Some were on standby but the vast majority were not. Let's calm it on down.
6) I have an awesome surprise planned for my mom's birthday on Wednesday. I CAN'T WAIT!!! :)
7) Rashan and I are funny. We speak in unison more and more frequently. Then he says, "Jinx, owe me a NuGrape." Yeah, no! Fail on the hood drinks! Lolol.
8) I bought a book for a dollar at the dollar store... clearly I should've known better. Really, 8 f-bombs in the first 5 pages? Wretched & pass.
9) I tried to get my red lipstick and the guy picked out the most awful hooker red you've ever seen in your life. I told you I wanted a red that looked good on me. I said no raisin-colored and this is what you give me? Is this why you work at U.lta instead of Sephora or Mac? I tried Lancome and that was only slightly better. Clearly I need to get myself on to the Mac counter yesterday. I should ask Rah's sister-in-law.
10) Martin+Osa aka my fave chain clothing store is going out of business. FAIL. They have such great clothes for me-- classic with slightly trendy touches. Ugh. BUT I can't wait to stock up on clothes when they go even lower! YESSSSS. 30% off for a store going out of business w/no returns or refunds = not low enough. I got some things yesterday but I'm gonna need much more.

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 54
I know Monday Mindspacing is gonna have a great week when I start putting in new things on Monday!
1) Cursing cartoon kids is the worst for me. I'll pass on the shows that have them.
2) I saw the Berenstain Bears somewhere and had an urge to read all of them again! It was one of my favorite series in elementary school before I was put on the Babysitters Club. I liked Nancy Drew just okay. Same with the Boxcar Kids. I really liked Sweet Valley High. Judy Blume, WHAT!?!? I read 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret' when I go to my mom's house every other year or so. Love it! I will definitely pick that one up again this summer!
3) I'm so glad I put a reading goal on my 30 Before 30 list! I love reading and I really missed it when I was shoving in incessant films last year. I have totally given up on watching 365 films this year. I really don't care enough to do that. I'll be fine with 300. That means I'm still less than halfway there.
4) I won't say I'm already following EVERYBODY I want to follow on twitter. Who knows what great tweeter may pop out the woodwork (I think Nerd Girl would be great on twitter!) but when I see people say they're on now, 9/10xs I think, "Ew. Your fb statuses are horrendous, why would I want additional torture?"
5) I'm sitting in the car while Rashan pumps my gas when I hear this outrageously loud singing along to a horribly produced song. I look over (shocked it wasn't him LOLOL) and it's old boy pumping his gas... I just know it's his song and this is his idea of marketing. Mess.
6) I love driving in Atlanta when there are plenty of people on the road and you can go 75 in a 55 because you're going with the flow of traffic and people STILL pass you. Once a cop passed me going AT LEAST 90.
7) My zip code at Hampton was 23608, it was 32608 in Gainesville. I realized this when I couldn't remember my Gainesville zip code a few weeks ago! Lol! Nutty.
8) I love being able to say my highest completed education is graduate degree when filling out surveys!! :)
9) You sound dumb when you say game 7 is do or die. Really? So wait, if you lose this game... it's over????????
10) I don't like swimsuit ads with chicks laid out on the beach. Are you selling sexy or a swimsuit? Because I can see sexy & congrats and all but I need to see the swimsuit. Thank you ever so much.

12) I don't like when people use twitter to be cruel. It's so unnecessary.

Moving week means 1 movie! Wow!
126) Jennifer's Body. Diabolo Cody's second turn as a writer starring Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox as teenage girls-- oddly matched best friends-- one of whom is turned into a demon, the other who has to protect the boys in her town. It's supposed to be more clever than it actually is... unbelievable and because of that sometimes really really boring. 2.8 stars

127) Finding Neverland. Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet & Dustin Hoffman star in the after story about the creator/creation of/insiration for Peter Pan. The film is set in 1904 England and based on a true story. SO cool. In telling the creation of the classic play, the director manages to keep a lot of the magic. I really enjoyed this film. 4.4 stars

128) A P.lace of Our Own. A personal documentary about upper middle class black families who vacationed on Martha's Vineyard on the summers. Some really great archival footage right at the open. Maybe it's a little too personal. It was very difficult to watch at times because you felt intrusive. The 1950s sequence was fantastic. This was a snapshot of the black section of the Vineyard. I was looking for more. I think I wanted to get more personal stories from each of the people he interviewed. 3.5 stars
129) Swimming with Sharks. Film starring Kevin Spacey about a guy trying to work his way up while working for a super jerk. Unnecessary voiceover open. Endlessly boring after the first 45 minutes. Let down of an end. 2 stars
130) Swing Time. Classic musical starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. I'm gonna guess no one told me Fred Astaire was in black face because I would've never seen this film. Complete and utter crap. Instead of actually hiring Bojangles to do the act, put Fred in blackface. FAIL. I'm heated. Other than that I suppose it was pretty good. 3.7 stars
131) 36 Hours. 1964 film about an American soldier captured and made the target of a German plot to gain military information. Interesting but some of the scenes were overly long unnecessarily. Still, I was very engaged once the real action started. The ending was a bit of a let down. 4 stars

Kids? Who Needs Those?
Have I told you guys lately that I don't know any babies? And never have? Oh I know PLENTY of babies on blogs and am aware that my friends have had babies but my sister and I are the youngest cousins on my dad's side. I babysat ONCE for 2 hours when I was 14 and was shocked by it. Not awesome.
This was amazing. "Take that out of your mouth." "No." "How did you get over there so fast?" "What do you want?" I don't even know how to cut right-sized food for children. I got a 'too big' from the oldest one. SO FUNNY. Thank God for 'Yo Gabba Gabba.' I love you for holding their attention for 30 minutes. J is already ready to eat us out of house and home. There were raisins but my favorite was when I peeled an orange, cut it into microscopic pieces and had him hand the chewed bits back to me-- by surprise! I was so shocked by that the first time he did it. You spit that into my hand!??!?! I'M NOT A MOM!!!! I'M NOT READY!!!
I was standing in the kitchen cutting banana & hot dog and thinking, "I definitely am not ready to be anybody's momma... but could someone at least have taught me how to be an aunt?????? Anybody??? Bueller??? Bueller??? Jemima???" 5 hours is definitely the longest I've EVER been responsible for another human who needed me to do stuff constantly. I was tired after 2.5 hours. By 4 I was looking like it. I finally just got up to go cook. Wow... Oh yeah and I used to want 3 kids... I'm clearly currently amending that until further notice. Kids are hard. Y'all have fun with that.

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 53
1) I like reading the New International Version of the Bible... but I like memorizing the King James Version. It just sounds more Bible-y to me. Reminds me of my childhood.
2) Georgia is in a really aggressive anti-meth phase right now... the commercials-- radio & television-- and billboards are omnipresent. Somebody rich apparently has a momma, son or daughter who was obliterated by meth. I'd just like to know the appeal of a drug that's a bunch of household cleaners boiled together. I'm gonna have to pass on that.
3) What is wrong with my boyfriend? This dude has exposed more of his ridiculous rap stuff in the last week than in the previous year. This is exactly why I excuse myself from the room or the phone when he starts going. I DON'T CARE!! He critiqued a rap using the term, 'non-sequitur.' For real? And still can't stop listening to the hood rat rap on ATL stations.
4) I made the Ultimate Sunday Meat & Potatoes dinner with steamed asparagus in a paper bag from Tyler's Ultimate per my 30 Before 30 goal. OMG!!! That was one of the most delicious, most impressive-looking dinners I've ever made! I was so excited & proud of myself! :)
5) I can't watch soccer. One goal in 90 minutes? I'm gonna have to pass. Show me the highlights.
6) I don't get the becoming a UniversalLife minister for your friend's wedding thing. I mean I do and I don't. I don't personally want it at all. So that's what I mean. I can kind of understand why people do it. It just seems so hippie-ish.
7) Rashan's mom is way more physically affectionate than my mom. It's an adjustment being around her. Lol.
8) I frequently think there's someone who doesn't believe I cook as much as I have in the last few weeks. I make myself crazy with something I have no proof of. I DO like posting failures, though because who believes EVERYTHING you make tastes awesome? Nobody.
9) Once again, I watched ONE movie last week... wow... I blame car issues & 3 days at Rashan's mom's house.
10) Rashan left me alone in his mom's house... several times. The most okay times were when I was in the kitchen. Lol. His 2nd youngest nephew now treats me like an expected addition. He ran to me and gave me a hug before he went to sleep the other night. Too cute.
11) I don't know why all the newspaper websites now have this giant ad that covers the screen and you HAVE to x out of to read the site but it's really really annoying.
12) Why didn't any of you guys tell me about KindleForMac??? I can read free books on my computer w/o needing to own a Kindle!! You people care nothing about me. Why is this?

6) I don't get the becoming a UniversalLife minister for your friend's wedding thing. I mean I do and I don't. I don't personally want it at all. So that's what I mean. I can kind of understand why people do it. It just seems so hippie-ish.
7) Rashan's mom is way more physically affectionate than my mom. It's an adjustment being around her. Lol.
8) I frequently think there's someone who doesn't believe I cook as much as I have in the last few weeks. I make myself crazy with something I have no proof of. I DO like posting failures, though because who believes EVERYTHING you make tastes awesome? Nobody.
9) Once again, I watched ONE movie last week... wow... I blame car issues & 3 days at Rashan's mom's house.
10) Rashan left me alone in his mom's house... several times. The most okay times were when I was in the kitchen. Lol. His 2nd youngest nephew now treats me like an expected addition. He ran to me and gave me a hug before he went to sleep the other night. Too cute.
11) I don't know why all the newspaper websites now have this giant ad that covers the screen and you HAVE to x out of to read the site but it's really really annoying.
12) Why didn't any of you guys tell me about KindleForMac??? I can read free books on my computer w/o needing to own a Kindle!! You people care nothing about me. Why is this?

How We Met
We were each in that building our readers phase where we were constantly on the lookout for new blogs. He was probably trolling the internet for easy women which is why I was dismissed. Lol. He says it's because I had a boyfriend at the time... which may or may not be true. I dismissed him because he was old. LOL!! I also didn't find him particularly funny or interesting. And it turns out, he found me obnoxious.
But for some reason in September 2007, we started reading and commenting on each other's blogs regularly. When I decided to do NaBloPoMo in November, blogging every day that month, I challenged my blog la familia to join me. I was very excited about all of the people who said they would join. IT WAS SO HARD!!! But with Rashan talking junk, I couldn't stop. Sound familiar? Harken back lo 3 months ago when we did it again. Lolol. But I digress.
At the end of November, Rashan said, "I bet you can't keep going." For real, dude? CHALLENGE!!!! So I turned it back around on him, "Oh I can DEFINITELY keep going longer than you!!" (That's what she said.) We kept going for several months, raggin on each other, trying to goad the other into quitting first. It was hilarious and fun. As a result of this goading we started emailing every once in a while. After a cute post where he said there was a blogger whose number he wanted to ask for but he wasn't sure if he should, he asked for my number but I think I actually was the first to call.
We started talking a few days a week on the phone in addition to our daily or near daily email chats. By March we were emailing every single day. By May, we were talking on the phone for hours every day. More than 2 years later, we haven't missed a day since. That June we started secretly making plans to meet. Y'all bloggers are nosy. You knew something was going on but we weren't telling. I wanted to meet him but he was in Atlanta, I was in Pittsburgh... and it was... THE INTERNET!!! AHHHHH!!! Lol. He thinks everyone on the internet is crazy... and had plenty of well-documented reasons to think that. I was apprehensive. Stace convinced me I should go. Rashan sent me a copy of his license to send to whoever I wanted, warning me that he looks like a serial killer in that picture-- TRUE. He just wanted me to be comfortable enough to come.
July 16, 2008 we met in the middle, also known as Nowhereville, Va. It was one of the most awkward moments of my life. This person I'd been talking to for months was suddenly face to face. We were both a bit robotish and nervous. You know how people say they met for the first time and it was so wonderful and there was no awkwardness? That it was like they'd always known each other? They're lying. I don't believe that. Lol. That might happen for somebody (no it doesn't) but it definitely took us hours to warm up to each other in person. We left each other on July 18th and he asked me to marry him. SIKE! Lololol. He asked me to be his girlfriend and I said, "Sure!" When we returned, we told bloggers we met via a picture on my blog with the description on his page.
When I went to Charlotte to visit my mom a few weeks later, he'd never been to Charlotte so he came to visit, met my mom, which was planned but then my dad and brother were accidentally in town. They came over for dinner and he met them, too. Really weird and funny but it went fine. He helped me move into my new place in Gainesvillle a couple of weeks later. I would've been all alone without him. Then he came back the next week for my birthday and met Stace for the first time. The three of us are trouble & fun together!! It was great. So that's our story.

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 52
One year of Monday Mindspacing!! How excited are you??? VERY, I KNOW!!
1) All of you must pat me on the back. 7 of the 30 Before 30 books I haven't read yet are on a promotion. They totaled $72.76 before the coupons I found online... which saved me $43.20. So even though they were $50.72 for 7 books with free shipping, I did not buy them, opting instead to save my money. Begin patting.
2) Can someone tell me where I thought I was going that I needed 7 outfits for 4 days in Florida when I need to spend the majority of those days packing? Help her (me), Lawd!!
3) Have I told you how excited I am about 30 Before 30?? I'M SO EXCITED!! I'm already underway with 3 of my goals and can't wait to give you a proper update when I've completed one! Yay me!!! I finished a book-- Pride and Prejudice and I LOVED IT!! 9 more to go!
4) When you spend a full page of tweets on follow backs... you gotta go.
5) My hair is the longest it's ever been and continually scares me when my shoulders are bare. I'm constantly convinced there's something crawling on me.
6) No movies to post this week because with moving and driving many more miles than I planned and a series of unfortunate events... I saw one movie. Le sigh.
7) Why did Victoria'sSecret send me a birthday gift card... that expires June 30th... my birthday is August 23rd...
8) I knew my boyfriend was a music snob but it came to a head when we were driving to Atlanta this weekend. I realized he liked ZERO fun songs. Every song that comes on that sounds like something you would currently hear at a party, "I HATED this song." Of course you did... wet blanket. Lol. I was really irritated by this when I was sleepy. Now it's amusing. I want to go put on "Bust a Move."

Monthly Goals: June
Normally this is to update you on the previous month's goals and get into the next month's goals. They are versions of my yearly goals. This time I will do that AND update you on the relevant 30 Before 30 progress. AND I actually posted these goals in a timely fashion!! AMEN!!
1) Work on my relationship with God. I was on a roll toward the end of the month and since I've added read the entire Bible to my 30 Before 30 list, I have 9 chapters of the Bible down, 1180 to go! I'm already enjoying it and very glad I decided to undertake this goal. I figured out yesterday that if I read 2 chapters each day I can finish in a little more than a year and a half. I know the Bible is achievable in one year but I need to make it an experience I enjoy and get something out of rather than do just to say I did it. I know how I operate. So my goal for the end of the month is to have read at least 51 more books to bring my total for the end of June up to 60.
2) Finish my film. We completed our slightly shorter cut for film festivals so we fit into the shorts category. We also completed our trailer so we're in great shape! I'm very excited! This month, this goal is to apply to at least 7 more festivals. (We've already applied to 3.)
3) Take the next step in my career. Film festival applications sent out, as mentioned. This month I'm going to pitch my film (present it to a panel of executives from various television stations) at a film festival-- HUGE STEP!! I'm also going to use that time to learn, see films & network. CAN'T WAIT!! I'm crazy excited as this is my first film festival.
4) Try new restaurants. Of course I did well with this. I always do. I want to cut back on this but also by virtue of the amount of traveling I'll be doing surrounding this trip to the film festival in Maryland, I'm going to be trying lots of new restaurants.
5) Cook at least 3xs a week, 2 of those new recipes. I really got back into the swing of things in the last 2 weeks of May and feel quite comfortable proclaiming to have my cooking & baking mojo back!!! Recipes and reviews mostly with pictures are up on my food blog, The Record Dish, including cardamom rhubarb muffins with a lemon glaze, vanilla pancakes, lamb meatballs with honey-rosemary polenta & tangy red onion & fire roasted tomato sauce, super easy blue cheese penne and lamb burgers with feta sauce.
6) Watch more movies. I had a goal of getting down to just 11 behind before the end of the month... yeah... about that... I'm still working on it. I'm still 27 behind my goal of 365 films this year but the film festival will help. Plus... I'm not really too worried about this particular goal. I have a lot of things I need to accomplish in the next few weeks.
7) Workout more. I was shooting for 3xs a week and that didn't happen... again. Once a week would STILL be an improvement over my current lack of activity. I CAN DO BETTER!! I added this to 30 Before 30 as well and am getting underway TODAY. I can't afford to procrastinate any longer.
8) Statecations. I managed to go to St. Augustine yesterday!! That was June but I'm so excited that I did it that I'll forgive May for being disappointing on this front! :) When I move to NC I'm going to carry over the statecations goal and make it double up on some of my 30 Before 30. (Yes, I talk about that list right now as much in life as I have in this post!!!)
9) Contact my grandma once a month. She got 2 cards-- birthday & Mother's Day and a birthday phone call. This month I'll finally send her a package of my stuff from graduation & screening that she'll love. Very cool & exciting! :)
10) Do FAFSA. *Hangs head in shame*

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 51
1) People are so annoying acting like they're doing something and/or are better than other people by not watching BET. That's not new, people.
2) On that same thread, can people stop saying you have to look beyond the surface when you watch 'The Boondocks'? It's REALLY annoying. We get it, you watch b/c you're deep. You don't have to repeatedly tell us how deep you are.
3) I've decided when I start my own herb garden, it has to have among other things, rosemary & thyme because those 2 are the most like eating pine needles when dried. Not cool.
4) I thought it would be really hard not to talk about my classmates but most of the time it's really not. I guess because I got used to not talking about my coworkers with any specificity.
5) I've stopped encouraging people to start a blog... because I'll be too irritated when they inevitably give it up.
6) Why when I write Happy Birthday on someone's wall on fb do people sometimes comment on THAT post rather than writing their own? Complete strangers. So weird.
7) Why is there a choice on shopping sites to sort prices high to low? Do people actually do that? Do I really want the $700 pair of shoes when I could have the cuter $20 pair that's still great quality?
8) Do you even know what my mom said to me the other day? I told her I had given up on the idea of not going to the grocery store anymore before I leave Gainesville & she said "Girl please! Just eat pb&J!" Really??? When I balked she said, "Then eat grilled cheese!" For real??? Your first 2 food ideas for me are foods I haven't eaten in at least 15 years? Way to NOT be there, mom.
9) I really wish Rashan knew more than 1 person. I'd really like to be at someone's cookout today. :-/
10) I'm going on a mini tour of the East Coast this summer & am amazed by how much I'll be traveling in a month. Really crazy.

118) Alfie. Jude Law, Marisa Tomei, Nia Long, Sienna Miller, Susan Sarandon, Omar Epps. Stereotypical open with a guy full of himself talking directly to the camera... and then it continued ad nauseum... for real? That was hands down the lamest part of the film. Then the fact that there were no real surprises. Then you didn't care about his character. Boring. 2.3 stars
119) Precious. In some ways not as bad as I thought it was going to be, in other ways as every bit as bad as I thought it was going to be. Shockingly, there was even some humor. Very difficult to watch at times. 3.8 stars
120) The Cider House Rules. Toby Maguire, Delroy Lindo, Paul Rudd star in this film set in the 1930s about a boy raised in an orphanage and taken under the wing of the home's doctor. As the boy takes his own path in life, the story shifts more completely to him. Engaging and enjoyable if a bit of a slow start. 4 stars
121) Let's Get Lost. Documentary about Chet Baker. Visually interesting... the story line was a little too lost for my taste. Very free form. Fantastic music. 3.4 stars
122) The Man Who Knew Too Much. The 1956 version of the Hitchcock classic, starring Doris Day & Jimmy Stewart. Some interesting twists and I definitely never wanted to stop watching. I was a bit let down by the final moments but it is still absolutely worth watching. 4.3 stars
123) Observe and Report. Silly mall security movie starring Seth Rogen. Not for the faint of cursing and male n.udity. Some amusing moments, thought. For what it was, 3.6 stars
124) My Sister's Keeper. Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin star in a film about an 11-year-old battling her parents to keep from giving a kidney to her dying sister. Why do films insist having characters on talk directly to the camera? It's so ridiculous. Isn't the point of a film to be immersed in a person's life? How can I do that if you have each of the main characters talking directly to you? I didn't enjoy this version of a story told in flashback, either. Very sentimental. Worst of all, though, it felt interminable. Not to mention the completely multiple unnecessary scenes at the end. Talk about belaboring the point. 2 stars
125) Sex and the City 2. The girls are back... but this time in Abu Dhabi. Just meh. The score was horrid. The first one I never wanted to end. This one I didn't really care. It didn't help that I had Rashan next to me saying it was written by TylerPerry!! There were some clichéd overly-dramatized moments. That's not to say there weren't good moments. They were just farther apart than I would've liked. 3 stars

30 Before 30
When I told my mom about this list, she said, you better get a move on, you don't have much time.... FACE, MOM!! I still have 2 years and almost 3 months!! Such a hater, that one. I wanted this list to encompass things that are achievable but still not too easy, some things I've always wanted to do and some things I feel like I should have accomplished by now! I'm sure you'll see some that you think are unworthy of this list. To that I say, MAKE YOUR OWN LIST!! Then blog about it! :) The ones with asterisks are the ones I'll need some assistance to accomplish and haven't yet had any volunteers.
1) Get married. Can you believe I used to want to get married and have my first child by 23?!? Very glad I didn't. I'm such a different person now.
2) Get pregnant. I know you need to hear it, so no comments necessary on 1 & 2. Move along.
3) Go skydiving. I've always wanted to do this!
4) Ride a mechanical bull for at least :08. I know I can! :)
5) Go on a helicopter ride.
6) Go white water rafting.
7) Use my passport again. It's been 10 years!! My passport expires this month. :(
8) Read the entire Bible. I want this to be something I enjoy and learn from so I want a 1.5 to 2 year plan. I feel like a one-year plan would make me rush through it. Do you have a program you love?
9) Run a 5k. I've been saying this for years so it's time to actually do it!!
10) Take a cooking class. I would LOVE to do this!
11) Go wine tasting in North Carolina Wine Country. Gotta enjoy my home state on my triumphant return!
12) Cook my way through Tyler's Ultimate cookbook. It's achievable by sheer volume (there are about 100 recipes) but still difficult enough because of the techniques required to be interesting. Monday Mindspacing Vol. 50*
1) People who still don't get twitter are weird to me. I have different audiences on my blogs, facebook & twitter. There are only a handful of people who overlap with all three and I most of them are people I know or have at least met offline. I'm the same person in all three spaces but each gives me a different vibe and I give each a different piece of me with minimal overlap.
2) I. LOVE the open for 30 Rock... yeah.... I know that makes me weird... but I find it so cute & delightful! It's one of my favorite parts of the day! :)
3) I saw somebody on fb with SillyBandz, those colorful animal-shaped bracelets the kids are wearing these days (lolololol) & now I want some!!
4) I only like the name Eric spelled with a 'c.' I don't know why but the rest of you should fix the spelling of your name. I'm talking to you, 'q,' 'k' and 'ck.' I'm sure there's someone out there who thinks I shouldn't have an 'i' in my name and call myself Ja-mell. SO!! You don't like it, give your child the greatest name ever & spell it however you want. But Eric only.
5) I hate when internet emails say 'JUST FOR YOU!' then I see it's a lie. BORDERS BOOKS & MUSIC!! I have never, ever in my entire life done a search for a book on Palin, vampires or Harry Potter. EVER. Hate. Take a cue from Netflix.
6) Despite my foodieness I love those crackers, sausage & cheese gift sets... I also like the popcorn trios, too... Lolol.
7) People... you shouldn't even TRY to sell everything. A knitted apple cozy??? Why does my apple need to be warm??? AND FOR $9?!?! I'll leave it at the store first. Let them keep it warm.

Movies 2010, Week 18
May 16-22, 2010
Okay short of what I needed to achieve this week but getting back into the swing of watching films.
113) Kiss Me Kate. 1960s musical about the production of a Cole Porter musical based on 'The Taming of the Shrew.' A little too heavy on song & dance even for a musical at the expense of a story line. Some beautiful singing and dancing but this film made absolutely no sense. It dragged and dragged and dragged and dragged and dragged. Did I mention it dragged? Way too long at an hour 50. + boring. 2.9 stars
114) Presumed Innocent. Harrison Ford & Brian Dennehy star in a film about a prosecutor assigned to a case. When his fingerprints are found at the crime scene, he is forced to admit to an affair with the woman, his coworker. Hyper dramatic open. Hmm... in some ways very well done. Great suspense, multiple suspects, some sort of predictability in the end. I'm not sure what rubbed me a bit in the wrong direction. 3.5 stars
115) Everybody's Fine. Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale & Sam Rockwell star in a film about a widower who travels cross-country to visit his kids when the family reunion is cancelled. I had low hopes for this movie... It was very meandering as he visits his horrible kids in scenes that last a little too long with nothing happening. It took way too long to get to what you knew was going to happen. Somber and too slow but not terrible. You at least cared about the characters. 3.5 stars
116) The Major & the Minor. Billy Wilder's first film happens to star Ginger Rogers. What a start! To get a cheaper fair, a woman (Rogers) dresses as a child to get across the country on a reduced fair. Surprisingly amusing. Propaganda at the open to the tune of: The Dutch bought NY from the Indians and by 1941 not an Indian was around who wasn't happy about it. Seriously? But anyway, the girl meets a major who helps her. Some craziness ensues. The end was kind of creepy. They didn't handle the transition very well. 3.6 stars
117) The Dark Corner. A private detective framed by his ex-partner finds himself framed again in a film noir thriller. Lucille Ball plays his adoring secretary pretty well. Some pretty cool twists. I would've preferred for them to happen a little more quickly. A rather slow unwinding of the story. Still, definitely worth watching. 4 stars

I'm ready to leave Gainesville (2 more weeks).
I'm ready to eat some Mexican food (tomorrow??).
I'm ready to get all of this food out of my house (ASAP!!).
I'm ready to go to the beach again (IDK :*( ).
Most of all... I'm ready to GO!!!! I'm so ready for the next phase of my life. I definitely have to work on living in the moment but right now I'm thinking it's time for this moment to end.

Geeked!
The latest on my film is today my thesis partner & I cut it down to 39:57, my goal length. For most film festivals you need to be under 40 minutes including credits to qualify for the short film category. At our screening we were at 40:57 so we knew we wanted to cut about a minute. We got rid of some redundancies, some confusing or unnecessarily long sections, added a few effects, changed some music and today we are at a place where I can say we're done!!!! SO EXCITED!! We'll be entering about 5 film festivals in the next 2 weeks and 5-7 more in the weeks after that. SCORE!! I'm so excited! And I just can't hide it!
Tomorrow we work on our trailer and by the end of the week we should have some website stuff squared away! I cooked for my classmates on Monday (recipes throughout the week on The Record Dish) to make them help me clear out my refrigerator... hmmm... we're meeting tomorrow and I think I'll take them some more food! Yesssss! I was looking for a way to get rid of some more food! We are also having a brewcue-- that's beer brewing session & barbecue. What?? All over it! I'm so ready. I have ground beef, chicken & turkey hot dogs in the freezer all begging to be cooked.
AND Rachael Ray's mag is a grilling issue with at least 6 recipes I want to try on 3 pages. DAAAAANG!! This magazine is off the chain this month!! Love it!! Isn't it a beautiful day in the neighborhood??? BTW my godmother was talking about turning on the heat recently (she lives in Harrisburg) and it really shocked me. It's been in the 90s for 3 weeks here!! Lol. No, that is not bragging because the weekend of my graduation? Felt like 100. FAIL!!! Anyway, hope you're having a great day, too!

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 49
1) It is so cool that Rashan and I found each other when we did. We had both seen each other's blogs at least a year prior to regularly reading & ignored them. Neither of us would have been open to dating the other had we met any earlier. I would've found him too old, he would've found me too young. (He's still old... lolol)
2) I'm just gonna say this because it needs to be said... EVERYONE CANNOT TAKE BEAUTIFUL PICTURES!!! If you're going to even call yourself a budding photographer, step 1: buy a decent camera. Don't use your lil 5mp camera or camera phone with terrible lighting and talk about 'get at me for quotes.' Never.
3) I really, really, really, really want some stuff from my etsy favorites. It would take me way too long to justify buying all that stuff for myself. Soooo.... I have a birthday coming up in August! :)
4) If Rashan doesn't post soon, I'm going to hack into his blog and post for him.
5) One of the ways I entertain myself when watching Iron Chef is to try to name off the different varieties of the secret ingredient before Alton does! LOL. Then it makes me feel all smart when I know multiple ones! :) Yes, I am food crazy. And I've started cooking & posting on my food blog, The Record Dish again!
6) My life needs more delicious margaritas.
7) I sent Rashan back to Atlanta with all my books, dvds & the majority of my winter clothes and shoes. He looked at me like WHY DO YOU HAVE SO MUCH STUFF??? Then he said it... lol.
8) One of my biggest fb/twitter/blog pet peeves? When people spoil tv shows!!! That is so rude. Beyond people who live on the West Coast, what if people couldn't be home to watch it and planned on catching the replay or watching it on Hulu the next day or WHATEVER???? So horrible. Even when I don't watch the show in question I chastise the spoilers!! My mom doesn't get this about me. She likes people to tell her EVERYTHING. Yeah, no. Sometimes I help her out, sometimes I don't.
9) I really want to watch at least 10 movies this week. Minimum. I have to get close to something like caught up on this goal of watching 365 movies this year.

110) Dead Ringer. Classic 1964 film starring Bette Davis as a woman who kills her twin sister then steals her identity. Very awesome. 4 stars
111) Play the Game. An indie film about a guy with Elvin Thibbodeaux as a wingman. The guy also has Andy Griffith as the grandpa he's teaching how to pick up women. Very bad. Bad music. Bad acting. Really bad script. Completely improbable. Scenes dragged on interminably. They jumped around without making any sense. Way too long. INCLUDING a double ending. Fail. 1.8 stars
112) Raising Arizona. Coen brothers film about an ex-con (Nicolas Cage) and his police officer wife (Holly Hunter) who steal one of the local quints. As silly as you think it would be but more enjoyable than I expected. Lol. The end was lame, though. 3.4 stars

Monthly Goals: May
This is to update you on my April goals and get into my May goals... mad late again. I'm a DAY earlier this month but for real this time, I'M GONNA be ON IT next month!! I promise!! Lol.
1) Work on my relationship with God. I did not as well on this this month! BUT I'm going to continue with my devotional this month! Me and God are gonna be chillaxin on the regs before you know it.
2) Finish my film. I DID IT!!! We're working on a slightly shorter cut for film festivals so we fit into the shorts category of more festivals but we'll be done with that by the end of the month!
3) Take the next step in my career. I applied for another position earlier this month and I will be sending out versions of my film for festivals! :)
4) Try new restaurants. Great job with this in April & thus far in May. I'll aim for just 2 more new restaurants. Again, I don't really have a desire to fall in love with another restaurant here when I'm leaving June 5th.
5) Cook at least 3xs a week, 2 of those new recipes. I did pretty terrible with this last month but I've already cooked 3xs this week and am raring up for at least one more before the end of the week. I'm also cooking myself out of house and home next week so I don't have to cart all this stuff with me to Atlanta when I move out.
6) Watch more movies. I'm still behind in my movie-watching but working on catching up. As of right now I'm 21 1/2 movies behind (one's in progress). I want to get that down to 11 behind before the end of the month. I'm trying to watch at least 2/day several times a week.

10) Do taxes and FAFSA. How have I still not done my FAFSA? I put the tax return in savings. FAFSA, I WILL finish you by the end of the week!! For real this time!!
1) Work on my relationship with God. I did not as well on this this month! BUT I'm going to continue with my devotional this month! Me and God are gonna be chillaxin on the regs before you know it.
2) Finish my film. I DID IT!!! We're working on a slightly shorter cut for film festivals so we fit into the shorts category of more festivals but we'll be done with that by the end of the month!
3) Take the next step in my career. I applied for another position earlier this month and I will be sending out versions of my film for festivals! :)
4) Try new restaurants. Great job with this in April & thus far in May. I'll aim for just 2 more new restaurants. Again, I don't really have a desire to fall in love with another restaurant here when I'm leaving June 5th.
5) Cook at least 3xs a week, 2 of those new recipes. I did pretty terrible with this last month but I've already cooked 3xs this week and am raring up for at least one more before the end of the week. I'm also cooking myself out of house and home next week so I don't have to cart all this stuff with me to Atlanta when I move out.
6) Watch more movies. I'm still behind in my movie-watching but working on catching up. As of right now I'm 21 1/2 movies behind (one's in progress). I want to get that down to 11 behind before the end of the month. I'm trying to watch at least 2/day several times a week.

Stunned
My friend's mom died unexpectedly and stunned is the best word I can come up with for how I feel right now. I wish Florida wasn't so far away so I could go sit with her. Her mom always welcomed us into her home, talked to us and fed us great mom food. She was a mom you could visit if you were in town even if your friend wasn't there because you knew she'd be so happy to see you. I can't imagine losing my mom EVER, let alone before she gets a chance to see you get married, have more children & fulfill more of her dreams for you and your dreams for you. So very sad.
The strangest part is I spent all weekend thinking about my friend. We don't talk much but she's one of those people who will be there when you need her. Part of my thinking about her was doing my hair like her this weekend. I couldn't figure out why she was on my mind like that the rest of the time. But when I finally went to text her and see what was up and why I was thinking about her like that, I had left my phone in the hotel room & so had Stace. Then I forgot about it again and I figured everything was okay. Then it was, but now she needs us.

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 48
1) I don't appreciate all of you who are turning 30 making me think that far in the future. Thanks for nothing.
2) Rashan weirds me out when he says my name. He says it so rarely that I always notice when he does. It's startling! I always go, you said my name! Lol.
3) When people do overhauls of their entire lives, I always wonder what they went through to make them lose it like that & why they don't just do a little at a time. Might help all those changes stick a little more easily.
4) I love looking at pictures of people's children... mostly because I don't have to change their diapers or listen to them cry. And they're so cute! I like reading mommy bloggers, too... but when y'all have one of THOSE days? I am SO grateful for my single student life.
5) I've also determined 13 seconds is the perfect length for a baby video where the baby isn't doing much but smiling and laughing, maybe just sitting there. After that only the grandparents & parents care.
6) I hate pomegranate. I know that's a strong word: pomegranate. But I mean it. Eeeeyuck!!!
7) Last week's graduation post was my 1000th!! Pretty cool milestone. I hit it in less than 5 years! :)
8) Now that KFC's sandwich is about 8 weeks old it's time to stop talking about it like it's something new. Unless you've tried it, let's move on from the chit chat. Really? The obesity argument? That's novel. People who eat a 'sandwich' that's two chicken breasts, cheese & bacon are either gonna be and STAY fat or never gain an ounce. Either way, that one thing isn't the reason for their size. Move it on along.
9) The day I got google reader was the day I reintroduced some sanity into my blogging life. Bloggers who don't post frequently don't make me feel like I have to check daily. Just put it on the reader! The. best.
10) I'm so over your self-congratulatory fake deep tweets. You know what I mean and if you think I'm talking about you, I am. 'An apple is not an orange and neither is a tomato.' For real? And the motivational statements that are a constant loop of platitudes... Stop it.

Wow... I really only watched one movie this week! Lol. Not including my classmates' films.
104) The Glass Menagerie. Tennessee Williams play starring Katharine Hepburn & Sam Waterson. Interesting... definitely a play. It ended but didn't conclude. Know what I mean? I can't say I wasn't somewhat interested but it just sort of stopped. 3.5 stars

105) Lover Come Back. Doris Day & Rock Hudson (*fans self*) star in this 1961 film about an ad exec, the woman who hates him and the intersection of their lives over a product that doesn't yet exist. There was also a secretary role for Alice from the Brady Bunch. Silly. Each of the gags went on too long. But I did rather enjoy the end. 3.4 stars
106) What's Up Doc? Barbra Streisand & Ryan O'Neal star in a Peter Bogdanovich opposites attract caper about a bag mix-up. Amusing. Still silly with one particularly long chase sequence but most of it really works. 3.6 stars
107) Married in America 2. Another Michael Apted's series, this one self-explanatory. Pretty well-edited but at more than 2 hours, it's too long. There's enough of this sort of stuff on television now that you're too used to getting this sort of information in small doses. I hadn't seen the first part & the best part about these series is that it's unnecessary. 3.3 stars
108) OT: Our Town. Documentary about the first play put on at a Compton school in more than 20 years. Really nice job of weaving their lives and the play together. You were immediately with these kids. It started to lose some momentum around the title card Act III but things picked back up again. Very fun to watch these kids put on a play. 3.7 stars
109) Hot Tub Time Machine. Silly John Cusack movie about these guys with sucky lives who get in an accidental hot tub time machine. Yes, I knew it'd be silly going in. I was amused at times. The end is really what brought it down for me. Talk about jumping the shark. 3.4 stars

Graduation Weekend
This weekend was crazy and amazing. It was very emotional to see my film on the big screen surrounded by friends and family. It was emotional seeing my parents looking in awe at the poster my sister created for our film before they even saw the film. A really great night. Then the next day after graduation, we went to a Derby party. So here we are!

Those are the highlights, kids! I was stressed out part of the time (any time things weren't going my way... lol) but overall, I had a blast and was so happy to have my friends and family around me! And I'm officially a UF alum. Now on to bigger & better things. Tonight, Cinco de Mayo! CAN'T WAIT!!! Tomorrow I head to Miami!! And this fall, Wake Forest, I'm coming for ya!

1) I wish I could hide entertainment news from every website I view. That HAS to be the future-- self-selecting exposure to more online information. I don't need to know about who's sleeping with who and when and who's apologizing. When I say I don't care, I REALLY don't care. That is HANDS DOWN my biggest gripe with CNN, the overabundance of crap 'news.'
2) My no. 2 gripe? CNN TELLS ME WHAT ARTICLES MY FACEBOOK FRIENDS HAVE POSTED!!! HOW DO YOU KNOW WHO MY FRIENDS ARE WHEN I'M NOT SIGNED IN TO YOUR WEBSITE, BIG BROTHER!!!???? NOT COOL. And before you ask, yes, I unchecked that box on the fb privacy settings. Did nothing.
3) Rashan broke my heart. He has decided he will no longer drink beer. GULP!!! I really enjoyed having a boyfriend who could and would try the beers of the world with me. No more. What a selfish, selfish decision he made. Shortly before I posted this... he changed his mind. YESSSSS!!
4) Kurt on Glee looks old in profile. Fake high schooler fail. I feel mean now that I found out he's just 19...
5) RASHAN LOVES ME!!! Back so quickly from no. 3 huh?... He got me a new digital camera &..... SEASON ONE OF 'A DIFFERENT WORLD' ON DVD!!!!! I've been waiting for that DVD FOR.EV.ER!!! I didn't know it started at sophomore year. Hmmm....
6) I have an empty house for the first time since Tuesday and it feels really weird.
7) Know how I'm celebrating a fabulous screening? (Details to come!) WITH A TRIP TO MIAMI!!!!! PARTY PARTY PARTY!!

Sorry, kids. The busy period has begun! I will not be able to entertain you for the next few days with a gaggle of friends and family in town and frolicking hither and yon. I am SO excited about my screening and ready to take over the world!! Think happy thoughts! Maybe read the archives...

2) Since it comes up weekly, we won't be putting our film online. We WILL be applying to multiple film festivals so if there's a fest near you that you think we should enter, put in your request!
3) Funny twitter explanation of the week re: crackheadthoughts, "People are tweeting what they assume people doing crack cocaine must think." LOLOL. Thanks twitter. For all the people too slow to figure it out from reading two tweets.
4) I hate the term 'middle-aged.' It sounds so boring... and OLD. Matter of fact, I'd rather be called 'old' than middle-aged. Not at the ripe old age of 27, but when I reach that time when people might start calling me that, I'd like to skip that particular descriptor.
5) My thesis partner and I took the weekend off last week. Productivity-wise, it was one of the best decisions we've made in a while. We came back refreshed and ready to take on the film. We'll be able to work through Wednesday and wrap it up! LOVE IT!
6) My mother never cooked with bread crumbs (she just didn't like them) so I didn't either for a long time (I know I have texture issues and I certainly don't like them on mac and cheese). The first time I did cook with bread crumbs? SWEET BABY JESUS!! I shall never forsake the breadcrumbs again! No, not never!
7) I could never be a mailman. If I saw lots of different sized packages like I've had at my house in the last week and over the next week I would be DYING of curiosity!! I have stuff coming for my screening, post-graduation derby party, Stace's birthday & Mother's Day from several different locations. That's not including my Rachael Ray & Food Network magazines! I LOVE GETTING MAIL!!!
8) When you wear a LOT of makeup... it makes you look like a drag queen.
9) Speaking of makeup... I need a red lipstick! I should go to the Mac counter. Who to take with me??? I think Rashan! LOLOL
10) I wish it was mandatory to post who Shelly O's wearing every time you photograph her so I don't have to go looking for it. FLOTUS is flyyyyyy!!!
11) Have I told you lately how much I love grenadine? LOVE!!!
12) I always delete people from my facebook when I'm in a bad mood. Then my mood improves and I promptly forget who I got rid of. Usually they're people I don't know or speak to anyway.

How proud of me are you this week? Putting the finishing touches on our film and still managed to watch 6 movies!! Yeaaah!!
98) This Is It. "Documentary" about Michael Jackson's preparations for his 50-concert tour in London. Sort of a strange opening. I thought it could've started much better. Some AMAZING "Mike is the man" moments like Smooth Criminal and Beat It. Pretty good. 3.8 stars
99) Divorce, Italian Style. Italian comedy from the 1960s about a man who wants a divorce but can only get it by tricking his wife into adultery which would give him impunity in murdering her. Nuts! Pretty funny with the ironic twists and turns. 4 stars
100) A Place in the Sun. A George Stevens-directed film starring Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor with an appearance from Raymond Burr. It's about a factory worker juggling a wealthy socialite and his pregnant girlfriend. A 6-time Oscar winner. I can see why. Definitely a movie the Academy loved back then. A few of the final scenes were too melodramatic but still an intriguing movie. 4 stars
101) Calamity Jane. Doris Day stars as a gangsta shooting woman in the wild west. I wasn't expecting a musical... Silliness in a good cowboys and bad indians flick. A child might like this. Not I. Very badly lip synced. Incredibly predictable. I was amused at times but I don't need to see this again. 3 stars
102) Hurt Locker. Riveting Oscar-winning film about an explosives team in Iraq. Some of the photographic cinematic devices get in the way but that doesn't stop it from being a movie you're glued to from the first minutes. Some scenes dragged because they went on too long. I couldn't wait to look up details about how and where this was shot. The final scenes were pretty dissatisfying. Was something supposed to be building to that? A good film but it could've been better with tighter editing. I wonder what soldiers think about this film. 4 stars

Yes, the 2nd version of 'The Shop Around the Corner' and 'You've Got Mail.' At least the last one was slightly different. I think I like this one a little better than 'Shop.' Cute. 4 stars
I tried to watch "Paradise Now" about two Palestinians chosen to be suicide bombers who have second thoughts after visiting their friends and family. I couldn't watch it because it was dubbed in English in the Netflix online version!!! I refuse to watch foreign films w/English dubs. Foolishness.

I tried to watch "Paradise Now" about two Palestinians chosen to be suicide bombers who have second thoughts after visiting their friends and family. I couldn't watch it because it was dubbed in English in the Netflix online version!!! I refuse to watch foreign films w/English dubs. Foolishness.

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 45
1) Did I tell you the day I learned Rashan knew what a bossa nova beat was and LIKED IT, it was a wrap? A WRAP!! LOL.
2) I love Stace. But she's nasty. When she doesn't use all her polynesian sauce at ChickFilA... she drinks the rest. Her excuse: waste not, want not. I just threw up on my way to collapsing into diabetic shock. Ain't no cause for that.
3) Can someone tell Best Buy these aren't real developments, but things they should've been doing in the first place? "Now make online payments to your Best Buy Card on weekends and holidays at no cost, plus no same day payment fees when you use Online Bill Pay!" Foolishness.
4) Rashan hates it when I say tweeps. TWEEPS TWEEPS TWEEPS. LOL. Better than tweetie pies, n'est-çe pas? Oui.
5) Victoria'sSecret, everyone knows 'sun-washed' means faded. Not that cute of a term.
6) I love sending people articles about subjects they love or are passionate about, mostly from the NYT. I'm not sure how I fell out of reading the LAT, but I did. If you have a topic you want me to BOLO (be on the look out, Stace LOLOL), let me know and I'll email you when I come across it!
7) Rashan & I were watching Discovery Channel (or was it Animal Planet? Whichever one had a program narrated by Oprah) and were SO into the water buffalo getting killed by a komodo dragon. Really cool.
8) Remember how the last time Rashan was here we had an incredibly bad spate of food? This time was the opposite. Everything we ate was bangin!! More of that for the rest of our time together, please!
9) We've gotten an insane amount of feedback on our film in the last 2 weeks. So much we had to take a weekend to process it. Now we're back on our grind and getting ready for our screening next Friday. SO EXCITED!! :)
10) My defense went well! I now officially have a master's degree! All that's left is to walk across the stage-- a mere formality. I'm way more excited about my screening than graduation. It's no secret I hate graduations. I'll be delighted to skip the next one at Wake Forest.

April 11-17, 2010
I did so much better with my movie watching this week! Yay!! I think w/o Rashan here I could've done even better but I'll take that trade-off!
93) Holiday Inn. Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby star in a film about a dance trio that splits up. I was mildly annoyed by the mammy role that popped up. That was nothing compared to Crosby in black face with a black face PICKANINNY ACCOMPANIMENT!!!! LIVID. Who even cares what the rest of the film is about? Or that Bing sings 'White Christmas' beautifully? Not me. If you don't know why this is offensive, read this and don't give me that 'It was another time" excuse unless you're willing to use it to excuse anti-s.emitism of years past as well. 2 stars
94) Alice Adams. Katharine Hepburn stars in this 1935 film directed by George Stevesn about a small-town girl with social ambitions who falls in love with a local playboy. My soror Hattie McDaniels also appears. Really slow-moving film.
95) Slingshot Hip Hop. A foreign documentary (in Arabic w/English subtitles) about Palestinian rappers. Pretty interesting with some cool editing techniques. It seemed like a student film. Not in a terrible way but just that some technical things were distracting. The story line was also very fluid. Still, if you like music & foreign film about struggle, you will probably like it. 3.7 stars
96) Radio Bikini. Compilation documentary about an atom bomb test that affected thousands Americans. Pretty boring with no real story line. 2.8 stars
97) 12th&Delaware. Documentary about a p.ro-life clinic at the same corner as a Florida a.bortion clinic. Very very heavy and ominous. 3.3 stars

April Goals
This is to update my March goals and get into my April goals... mad late again. I'm gonna be on it next month!! I promise!! Lol.
1) Work on my relationship with God. I did much better on this this month! I did a devotional almost every day. I'm going to continue with my devotional this month!
2) Finish my film. The amount of progress we've made is so cool!!! An Emmy and Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker is coming to critique our films and give us feedback at the end of the week. AND it just so happens I really enjoyed her first two films. Very exciting. I defend my thesis film tomorrow at 9:30 am. Then at the end of the month, we screen! SO COOL!!
3) Take the next step in my career. I did apply for a summer position so score on that front! This month... I think I'll try to do some more networking.
4) Try new restaurants. Great job with this in March, pretty nice in April thus far and I think I might aim for just 2 more new restaurants. I don't really have a desire to fall in love with another restaurant here when I'm leaving June 5th.
5) Cook at least 3xs a week, 2 of those new recipes. I did pretty terrible with this this month and am on track to do just as bad or worse. Uhhh... yeah. I work then get home and don't feel like doing ANYTHING. I've been eating out a lot even though I gave up fast food for Lent. I'm going to aim for better the rest of the month.
6) Watch more movies. I'm now quite behind in my movie-watching. I don't blame the film for this one. I blame "The Office." I've watched every episode in the first 5 seasons and most of the episodes in the 6th season... I'm almost caught up. LOLOLOL. Gotta do better. Meh. This is a goal I don't care that much about.
7) Workout more. I was shooting for 3xs a week and that didn't happen... again. Same as the cooking thing. I just don't feel like it. But I seriously have got to do much better. And I will.
8) Statecations. I don't even have time for a statecation but next month... MIAMI!!! I don't know if I'll make it on the Florida statecation front before I leave but maybe Georgia this summer. I've always wanted to go to Augusta. We'll see.
9) Contact my grandma once a month. I sent her a card for Easter. She loved it. I sent my screening invite. I'm sure she'll be overjoyed by that, too. She's due a phone call this month... maybe I'll wait until her birthday on May 4th. She gets 2 calls in May because of Mother's Day so she'll enjoy that.
10) Do taxes and FAFSA. Way late on both of these... I'll have both done by the end of the day.

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 44
1) I started cracking up at "The Office" and couldn't stop laughing. Rashan said, "There goes my favorite sound in the world." I said, "My laugh?" He said, "You laughing uncontrollably." LOLOL! Awesome. I love that man. People have been telling me for years they love my laugh but from him? Sounds even better. :)
2) Sometimes when people tell me they love something about me it makes feel self-conscious about it. LOL. But not enough to not laugh! Hilarious.
3) Unicorns are creepy. Why do little kids like them? (Including little Jameil) It's not natural for a horn to be sprouting from a horse's head. Yuck.
4) Have I ever told you how much I love picking stuff from registries? LOVE IT!! The thought of being able to give someone a gift you know they'll love because they picked it = awesome! Even better when I don't have to pay for it. Last month was flowers Rashan sent to his mom. The latest is Rashan's old friend/coworker who's having a baby. Yippee!!
5) When you curse on the internet, do you really feel better about it when you change the spelling? If so, why? It makes me work too hard. If you're going to curse somebody out (not that I think you should), why not go all the way?
6) I think I'm going to do a post on the art of wading through online user-generated content i.e. on news stories and product reviews.
7) Parents, I'm going to have to renew my request that you stop telling me about your children's bodily functions. YUCK. Rashan swears I'm going to do the same thing. PLEASE not on fb/twitter/etc. PLEASE!! We're not all mommies/daddies and don't need to know!!!
8) Me and Rashan think fb pokes are the dumbest thing ever. I kept poking him and he would be like, "Did you poke me again? I thought I removed it. What happened?" And I'd act all innocent/confused. After the third time he realized I just kept poking him. LOLOL!!! We spent the weekend poking and repoking each other. It made me giggle about 10 times. Then we stopped.
9) We are partying it up for Stace's birthday next month and I. CAN'T. WAIT!!!! I'm so excited!!!
10) I realized I like the white people from my high school more when I see they have non-white friends. It irritates me when I see people's pictures and they're completely segregated. I don't really want to see you if you don't bother to be around people who don't look like you. You seem really closed minded. If you're not, you should know that's what your pictures say about you. You may ask, what about the black people. Black people live in a world surrounded by white people. Particularly for the educated, it's highly unlikely we don't have white friends. Call that what you want.
11) Here's something creepy about me. When I see cute puppies or kitties in classic films, I always think about how long they've been dead... It's not a fond thought. It's weird, but I always think it.
12) I defend my thesis on THURSDAY AT 9:30AM!!! How crazy is that??? We have to turn in our fine cut today (as close as possible to what we show on the 30th), then defend it individually Thursday. I'm up at 9:30! Oh yeah!!! I'm SO ready!! '82 I was born ready! :)

Movies 2010, Week 13
It's becoming a habit, huh? Too much work to watch movies. I just get weary of the bad ones in much less time so I stop watching them. It's like, why should I watch that crappy movie? I don't want to be bored in my leisure. It's too precious. Holla! I watched a ridiculously low number of movies this week. Ready for it? Two. ROTFL!! How do you go down from a record low of 3 the previous week??
April 4-10, 2010
91) Mildred Pierce. Classic film nominated for 6 Oscars starring Joan Crawford about a woman interrogated when her second husband is found dead. The bulk of the story is told in flashback. Interesting though I figured out the end pretty early in. Good, not great. 3.8 stars
92) The Killing. Stanley Kubrick film about a race track heist. The entire film is the build-up to the heist. It's somewhat interesting. The narration is incredibly irritating with its inclusion of way too many useless details. And if the details are important, there are still too many to pay attention to. The end was a complete and utter let down. Boooooooooooooo. 3 stars
**I also tried to watch Ruthless People. Outrageously cheesy open. Danny Devito & Bette Midler star as husband and wife. He wants to bump her off, then finds out she's been kidnapped for a ransom. He thinks his problems are solved! False. (Of course.) I can't even believe I got this film. I hoped it would be funny... but I couldn't even get into the first 10 minutes. Plot was too stupid and over the top.

April Fools?
My bad, guys. It was indeed April Fools when I asked for advice. Rashan and I do not have that issue. I really do appreciate all of you who took the time to give me some wonderful advice. I now know some of you have great perspective on things. I won't harken back to the post that made me eschew blog advice all together because it relates to a different time in my life. Suffice it to say, people who didn't know me like that gave me unsolicited, RUDE advice. THAT is why I made it clear from then on: I don't want your bad advice.
What I said on April 2nd was true, I am not too proud to ask for advice. Show me a (wo)man who leans only to (her) his OWN understanding and I'll show you a fool. It probably won't be relationship advice since Rashan and I, though very open, aren't really letting you all the way into our relationship and you don't have the facts. Because you don't need them. We appreciate the support. It's great to know there's such a large network of people we've never met rooting for us! But to KEEP our relationship healthy, it's important that it remains our own.

Grilled Cheese and Oatmeal
Can someone else tell Rashan this combination is nasty? Because he won't listen to me. Grilled cheese and oatmeal? It's not like you eat bland oatmeal or swirl in some sriracha. It's a lunch entree (which I find disgusting-- NOT a fan of grilled cheese since it reminds me of cheese toast and I HATE CHEESE TOAST AND KRAFT SINGLES-- another Jameil family food legend...) and a sweet breakfast food. Not okay. The two should not mingle. When I said it was gross, he said, "WHY ARE YOU ADVENTUROUS ABOUT FOOD UNLESS I'M EATING IT???" Is that a real question? Can you enlighten me as to what is adventurous about OATMEAL (which I like) and grilled cheese (WHICH 3-YEAR-OLDS LIKE...)? I like grilled HAM & cheese but cheese and bread a sandwich do not make. So tell him he's nasty in the comments after you hear this story.
One day before school, my mom, as usual was making us breakfast. (She used to be a stay at home mom... but I don't remember if she was at this point.) Today, she decided it would be cheese toast. I had grown increasingly to loathe cheese toast. It was toast with a Kraft single on top MICROWAVED. UGH. I feel slightly nauseous just thinking about it.
My sister, the much pickier eater, but a pleaser, was happily eating and I refused. My mom said, "You better eat that." I said, "I don't want to. If I eat it I'm gonna throw up." I think I was about 9. She said, "Eat it anyway." I was obedient. (Except with beets.) I ate it. Then I threw up. TOLD YOU. I'm a woman (or child) of my word, son. She doesn't remember this story but my sister and I retold it over Christmas. MERRY CHRISTMAS, MOM. Now eat your cheese toast. I still don't eat cheese toast. And I still don't eat Kraft singles. I used to eat them on burgers but now I'll pass on the plastic cheese. I'd rather eat it plain. (Side note: I never willingly ate a cheese-less burger before hitting 22 and still find it to be an abomination.)

My sister, the much pickier eater, but a pleaser, was happily eating and I refused. My mom said, "You better eat that." I said, "I don't want to. If I eat it I'm gonna throw up." I think I was about 9. She said, "Eat it anyway." I was obedient. (Except with beets.) I ate it. Then I threw up. TOLD YOU. I'm a woman (or child) of my word, son. She doesn't remember this story but my sister and I retold it over Christmas. MERRY CHRISTMAS, MOM. Now eat your cheese toast. I still don't eat cheese toast. And I still don't eat Kraft singles. I used to eat them on burgers but now I'll pass on the plastic cheese. I'd rather eat it plain. (Side note: I never willingly ate a cheese-less burger before hitting 22 and still find it to be an abomination.)

Monday Mindspacing Vol. 43
1) There's nothing sexy about a man with a LouisVuitton bag. Of any kind. I'm convinced you don't play for my team. That's fine. But I'm not going to bother to find you sexy.
2) It drives other people crazy when I'm with a bunch of people I know and take a picture of myself. Like w/all these people around, why not let one of them take it? Well... because I might like my vantage point better. Any more questions?
3) If you block someone, does that make you exempt from all the retweets? Let's say, and this is only an example, someone wanted to stop seeing RevRun tweets from followers... If I block him, will that magically happen? Let's try it. IT DOES!! You're welcome!
4) I almost deleted Stace the other day when she retweeted 50 things from EBadu/her stans. Go write a blog.
5) Sometimes I want to tell people they're "smart." Like, "You so 'smaaaart.'" *Eye roll* We make fun of you b/c we're mean girls + Rah. To quote La, "Not saying you're stupid but you're giving your brain more credit than it deserves." HAHAHAHAHA!!
6) Biggest twitter/fb/blog/life irritant? Studied aloofness. No one DOESN'T CARE that much. Not possible.
7) I can tell all the people who don't live in Florida b/c they're handing out soup recipes. It's 70+ or 80+ daily here... done with soup! Lol.
8) Best Chinese food menu item description? "Are you tired of your everyday bland soup entrees? Declare your independence with a tender chicken broth packed with selected white meat from the v.irgin b.reast of the great American chicken." The what part from the who? ROTFL!!!
9) My mom HATES green beans. That is HILARIOUS to me. Wait. You like beets, turnips & liver but not green beans? That makes NO. SENSE. She had them poorly prepared too many times. Ironically (maybe?) she prepares them amazingly. Yessss chicken broth instead of water!
10) There are only 3 things I'll leave my room for when I'm sleepy or going in there to wind down: lip gloss, lotion & sudoku!
11) I'm SO glad my bedroom is the darkest one in the house. I'm a night person. So I do a lot of day sleeping when I can. Florida must have the brightest sun I've ever lived in. Like walk out the house and your eyes beg for mercy (MERCY!). Like sunglasses are more than a fashion statement. Like you get the point. But somehow my window gets the least amount of light. SCORE! :)
12) One of my cousins just said counting down to Florida..... If she comes to Florida & says nada to me, I'm gonna be PISSED. For like 5 seconds. Then I'm going to go where she lives, talk about it, and make no plans to see her. I'll have Rashan or my mom to keep me company.
13) I used to have an aversion to kettle cooked chips. Now they delight me! :)
14) If you went to see the latest TylerPerry movie this weekend, I'm sad for you.

Movie Break!!
I only watched 3 movies this week so I was going to just save them for next week when I'm hopefully no longer 3 behind or still ONLY 3 behind but why not? Of course I've been working hard on my own film 6 days a week. I love the progress we're making (my thesis partner and I). It's really cool to see the story line come down and the visuals coming into place. I like when we agree on things and can see the value in getting rid of things. I even like tamping down on my need to control things! Goody!
Tomorrow our third rough cut is due. We'll be in the lab for 3 hours today putting the final touches on it. It's really close to where we need it to be for our fine cut due next Monday which is the last cut we'll show our professors before we show them the final film. Really cool! My thesis defense is 11 days away!!! Can you even believe it??? That sounds SO crazy!! And my screening is less than a month away. Wow... time flies when you're busy as all get out and mostly enjoying it!! (Sometimes a break is nice!)

88) Send Me No Flowers. Rock Hudson, Doris Day & Tony Randall star in this film about a hypochondriac man who is convinced he's going to die very soon. I seriously CANNOT believe how long this film went on!!! It went from silly to outrageously irritating. EDIT. Rock Hudson is nice to look at, though. 2.3 stars
89) Come September. Rock Hudson, Sandra Dee star in a film about an Italian love affair filled with insane events. Really funny and fun at first but dragged on too long. :( Brings it down to a 3.5-star film.
90) Kitty Foyle. Drama (for which Ginger Rogers won an Oscar) about a working girl dating two men, one of whom has a mother who doesn't approve of her. Kind of boring. Meh. 3.3 stars

Advice: The Follow-up
I would like to thank all of you who offered advice. No thanks to those of you who didn't. ESPECIALLY YOU, GINAE. Loud and wrong. Almost makes me never want to ask for advice again. But I don't let other people's ideas of me control me. I'm curious as to why all of you were so sure I wouldn't ever ask for advice. I mean I know I'm me but really? NEVER? I'm NEVER going to ask for advice? Let's check the archives.
Most recently, I talked about how single people shouldn't give relationship advice. I made the caveat HORRIBLE advice. If single people give GOOD advice, then it's fine, but so often it's like, "GIIIIIIRL!! THAT MAN AIN'T NOTHIN!! DON'T TAKE THAT!!" Chile please.
Then another time I talked about how people (Rashan) give unsolicited advice on how to manage my time. UNSOLICITED being the operative word. MESSSSSS.
That doesn't mean I don't know how to take advice. I just don't know how to take bad advice. Sometimes hearing things from other people, even obvious advice that you already knew for other people somewhere in the back of your head, is what makes things click.

Advice Needed
As you know, Rashan and I have a great relationship. We love being together and it's becoming increasingly torturous to be apart. There's just one problem.
I really want to get married and it's not that he doesn't because obviously he's an old man, but he's put all these obstacles to us getting married any time soon. He wants me to be out of school, he wants us to live together first (which I'm opposed to), and he wants us to have at least $5,000 saved toward a wedding and we haven't even started. I feel like all of these are stalling tactics.
I know what you're thinking, why would I put our business out like this on the blog? Especially since I usually eschew blog advice. Mostly because our relationship started on the blog and we've kept you guys mostly in the loop. Plus sometimes a person who's a relative stranger is the one with the best advice. I don't think it's fair to only talk about the great things and leave out the difficult things. I've blocked him from viewing my blog for the day so feel free to be completely honest. Do you think he wants to really marry me? Are these just stalling tactics? Is he being reasonable and I'm being unreasonable? What should I do?
