Email-Free: The Way to Be
Back to the matter at hand. I got an evite for my homie's 26th birthday party in Philly-- quick $50 flight-- and guess who can't go because of the ratings period? We're not even allowed to switch days and have someone work for us that day. You can't exactly say I have this reeeeally important birthday party that all my homies are going to be at, even Stace who goes to nothing!! It sucks. A lot.
I have another inbox where I get all of my Hampton stuff. I contemplated finagling to get to a funeral to see people but that's just wrong. Particularly considering I had to rack my brain to figure out who the dead person was. When I saw the pic it was like oooh yeaaaah. But I don't remember having any interaction beyond a hello. Yeah you don't go to the funerals of strangers to socialize no matter how much you like funerals. Or how bangin the last Hampton funeral was that you attended. Save the funereal work skipping for that of a person you actually know, God forbid (though we all must die).
But the real Hampton events I'm sad about are the Charlotte alumni ones. I was in Charlotte back when my fun, fun friend ClassyJoJo was still in grad school at Columbia and K.D. was still teaching in Japan so all the fun, young, unattached (and therefore able to party hardy!) Hamptonians I knew while I was in school weren't there. Mike had just moved there less than a month before I moved. Now there are all sorts of people there. They're having events at Jillian's and chairing committees and hosting mixers and wine and cheeses. Tear! You should've seen me the last time I went home. Every time I turned around I saw another person I knew. I was literally turning in circles seeing familiar faces because someone would tap me on the shoulder and it was just like OMG! What are you doing here!? So fab.
May I take this opportunity to tell you how much I LOVE being recognized? It got a bit old at Hampton. Me and my line sister were horribly active and therefore went to EVERYONE'S events. Well she didn't do the super social night time events as regularly. You know your girl wasn't missing your cabaret or party (except the bruhs because by sophomore year we had learned they had the wackest parties. Isn't that horrid? They were really nice guys and we could pregame with them without being accosted but their (non-house) parties? Please let there be something else going on that night.) and I was dragging all my girls with me. Or they were dragging me. Lol. That's why I loved my crew. At least 2 people were always down. Usually me, CC, Stace, & Morg. The Jameil-spotting was most ridiculous in the union. It could take me an hour or more to get through there. 30 minutes was an excellent day. I couldn't not bless my loyal subjects with my presence!! I kid, I kid! But seriously, I love seeing people I know.
The last time I was home we went to this one spot we shall never go to again because although there is an upscale atmosphere, the service is not up to par ever from the door to the bar. This is not acceptable. However, every time I go there I see lots of people I know. It's insane. I know I grew up there but still. I'm in town for the weekend and seeing people everywhere including some who aren't from there but I just know from Hampton or wherever in life.
One of the most fab moments of my life to date along this vein was at H.2o in DC New Year's Day 2005. First, I just love that club. Second, I was there with my cousin and her friend (didn't have to drive and her friend is one of those people guys love to buy drinks for. She wasn't drinking like that so she continually handed them to me. I always manage to go out with people like this. It's a must.). Again, every time I turned around I saw someone I knew. It was extra weird, though because I'm not from there and I think that was the only time I'd been there as an adult. BUT it's where a ridiculous number of Hamptonians settle for at least some portion of their lives. My cousin said, "Jameil knows more people than me and I live here!" Sigh. Heaven. That's also where I discovered Tanqueray and tonic with a lime. SUCH a classic drink. Like a mojito, its gorgeous and matches almost any outfit. See-through and lime. So me. Get there.
So to minimize the heartache and pain since who knows when I'll get off of weekends, NO MORE EMAIL!!

Blog 365
I'm in a very good mood today in case you can't tell. It's mostly because I got to get out of the booth during my show and switch off with my homie who is learning to do what I'm doing. You have to train people to take over your empire, son. Word life. You should hear me and Stace rock the accents. It's hilarious! "Cuz when it rains... people get wet." "Yo kid for real I love you kid but don't eva talk to me like that again son." I'm crackin myself up over here but I better conserve. I have 355 more consecutive days and I've already done 73. It's gonna be long, its gonna be hard, it might even be a little bit dirty. I think that's how it goes. I'll have to ask the coworkers. It's some ridiculous quote that's about broadcasting that sounds obscene out of context but is quite hilarious considering the ridiculous undertaking that is the weekend morning shows.
I'm cooking for the co-worker since we have such a good time together. Taco salads in homemade tortilla shell bowls (just the bowls, not the tortillas (recipe courtesy of the fabulous Rach)). She's my healthy-eating coworker who also works out so this is perfect for us. Can't wait!

TV Joy (Updated)
Wait for it.
Wait for it.
NEW GREY'S ANATOMY TONIGHT!! NEW GREY'S ANATOMY TONIGHT!!
*collapses into paroxysms of joy.*
P.S. does anyone else think it's wrong that the word "misspelled" looks like it is? And that the word "lisp" is hard to say even if you don't have one?
P.P.S. Get your "Free La" tees here.
Update: To quote Stace, "Don't mind if I do!" While I'm settling in for a night of delightful television, I decided to make some margaritas. Lemon sorbet, frozen lemonade mix, orange juice, cranberry juice cocktail... and tequila! Hello dearest Jose. Nice to make your re-acquaintance.
Project Runway: Prom Queen
Victorya misses Elysa? Type A misses pooing fabric? Does that make sense? These kids get to pick the designer who will make their prom dress!! Can't wait! Love it. V looks pissed. So funny. Low in front & back?? And Kit wants to be modest?? Love it. Kevin's throwback pic? Hilarious. I knew these girls would wanna look like whores. STOP WATCHIN E!!! Of COURSE Prince Christian the small (Courtesy: 1969) gets the pickiest one. Looooove!! How is Sweet P ignoring the color request? But its close enough for me. Oooh C. HOW were you best dressed?? LMAO @ Kit the prom princess. Oh my. Isn't it always like that? The punk rockers were soooo OC. Wholesome Mariah now can't keep her clothes on. I love that I still have 45 minutes of show. Life's good.
I soooo did not know that was Chris in all of his costume pics!!! Hilarious!! I don't do short prom dresses. Vic... the fake "jewels"? No. Love Papa Tim rallying the teeny tiny gay 12 y.o. Why is the black client the most annoying? She is workin my nerves. I do remember when I was so full of myself that I couldn't feel myself getting on people's nerves. Thank GOD I'm not a teenager anymore. I didn't hate being a teenager. I was always relatively well-liked among a broad spectrum of people (who usually didn't like each other). But once I wasn't a teenager anymore and can now look back, life is so much better. I know myself more and like myself even more. People who knew me then are like you like yourself MORE???? Hahahaha. I've never had a self-esteem problem. Wait. I just realized there is no one who has known me more than 7 years who reads this blog. Not to my knowledge anyway. Ah well. Ooh! Poetic license. Lol. Just kidding. Rewriting history is so passe.
LMAO @ liederhosen dress for Heidi. Oh Chris. Glad Christian has his mojo back. I can't stand Kit's. Way too many colors in that top panel. Now that all of the "jewels" are on Vic's, I guess. Definitely not my style. How would you love to be these teenagers? Have someone fabulous design your dress for you!?! Actually, I guess I did have that. My grandmother's a seamstress so I designed my dress and she made it. I also wanted a full-length coat made of the same fabric which if I had it I would wear it to this day. She didn't get to finish it, though. She lives in Mississippi. There is a dramatic-ish story I'd like never to relive surrounding that so maybe one day when I'm super bored but you'll have to remind me or I'll forget.
Ricky made his girlfriend's prom dress. LMAO!! You know all her friends said, "Your boyfriend is gay!!" Lololol. Why, yes, yes he is. I just ate my MadM.ex leftovers. I really, really need to marry a Mexican so I can eat like this daily. Here's what I want. A 6'2" (hahahaha. There are tall women cursing me right now. I can't help that tall men like tiny women.) 5-star Mexican chef with lovely muscles. Not too big, but well-chiseled. The camera man who swung from the contestants to teh judges as Heidi turned to intro them did a fabulous job. Love that shot.
Sweet P's dress bores me. We've seen that a million times. She's so happy with it but bah. Ooh. Love the balloon hem for Victorya. Chris' is very glam but looks a bit old for her. Kevin's is Marilyn Monroe-esque. The chest doesn't fit well on Jillian's. Ooh! Shock. I like Ricky's. Another balloon hem. The color would look better on me. Rami's is very now. That's actually cute. Tim said it was like something her mother would wear but I think it's nice. Christian's in the back? Like he said. Wow.
And now here come the fabulous comments about the dresses. Can't wait. Would you die if Heidi told you you looked gorgeous? I would. I don't like the cummerbund on Kevin's. She def. looks older. Awww. She looks like she wants to cry. Vic's is def a dress for a teenager. Nina is right that Christian needs tact and finesse in dealing with this child. How does MK think the dress is old-fashioned? The girl obviously liked it. I don't know who they could possibly send home other than Ricky. My choice anyway. How do they not like that green of Rami's? Gorgeous. Yes. Christian's was so all over the place. Oh yeah. I forgot about Kevin's. Ooh. He said "29.95 prom." Ouch. I usually like what he makes but if this is based on today's then I guess Kevin. Bah.
I knew Vic would win because it was also very age-appropriate. Christian's so bratty. Standing there with his arms crossed. I can't believe Ricky is in. Rami's pants are super tight. Down to Kevin & Christian. That's obvious. Holla Kevin. Knew it. RICKY!! Your time is coming.

I Specialize in Specificity
I asked my dad to buy 100% cranberry juice. Specific. He buys cranberry juice cocktail. 27% juice. Yuck. The rest is sugar and water, I know it is. I don't even want to look at the label. I tasted it. So not the same. When you have 100% juice (which isn't even more expensive because the generic brand is actually quite delightful) you will never want to go back. Give it a shot. I also asked him to buy B.igelow English breakfast tea. I'm delighted he got this one right. I know you're calling me bratty but when I'm not specific with him when I send him to the store he brings back the wrong thing and it will sit in that cabinet until one of us throws it away after it has passed its expiration date.
I also asked for P.rogresso chicken noodle soup. (He once got store brand chicken noodle soup and it was the most salty, disgusting bowl of soup I've ever had in my life.) He got the 99% fat free kind. That scared me. My mother has shooed me from 'diet' food all my life. I tasted it tentatively. It was actually good. Score! While we're talking about things that are good for you, A.ldi's brand Fit&A.ctive actually tastes like normal food. My mom bought something to give it a try and just kept trying it and almost everything I've had from that line was yummy.
Would you like to know something wonderful? Miss B told me to go to Banana R.epublic to check out their sale. I went to the mall with only that in mind. I got a cute gray pencil skirt with gold metallic threading throughout and 2 front pleats from J. Cre.w since it was on the way. Then I hit Banana. I went for the pants and bought an adorable red dress. Originally $138, now $44. And... wait for it. Wait for it. A gray wool suit. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. The holy grail. I love gray suits. For men and women. If you are a man and want to make me drool all over you, you will wear a gray suit. Preferably with a gorgeous striped shirt or a fabulous color like PURPLE or anything that pops. An actual color, not black or white. Drooling right now. Pardon me while I wipe my mouth.
Ladies and gentlemen. You must buy QUALITY pieces when selecting work wear. They should be pieces you can wear for years. That means you need not skimp on quality. It does not necessarily mean you have to spend a lot of money. If you need further convincing, calculate the cost per wear. The number of times you will wear it divided by the cost of the item. Let's say I wear this suit 10 times. I spent $97 on it. YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT!!! $97 FOR A WOOL SUIT FROM BANANA, ORIGINALLY $226. That alone should make you grab it off the rack and run like you stole it. BUT should you need additional help, if I wear it 10 times (and I plan to wear it far more than that including mixing and matching the pieces with other pieces already in my wardrobe.), it will cost me $9.70 per wear. How can you beat that? That's right. You can't! Sigh. I'm in heaven right now. I also went to MadM.ex for lunch. Drool. Pause. Sigh. Pause. Love. More drooling. And tonight? A new episode of Project Runway. Can life get better? I think not.

Virus Be Gone!
Before I slept until my eyelashes fell off (that's what I told my coworker I was about to do but thank God they're still there!! I think they're growing. They used to be stubby but they look longer now.), I took the doctor's suggested OTC meds. The A.frin? I felt so much better almost immediately that I considered calling the job back and going in. Just because there were so many people who had already called off. But I was still exhausted especially since I spent an hour and a half at the doctor's office. He got caught up because he had to suddenly send someone to the hospital. I maintained my calm because there but for the grace of God go I. (Apparently that phrase is attributed to John Bradfor.d.) Good thing I didn't go. I would not have gotten that gangsta sleep. They can survive a day without me. Especially since that's where I got the nastiest of all nasties!! My doctor's message: Tell the people at work to wash their hands!! Seriously. Disgusting. How about this, too. Stop coming to work sick. Thanks.
I finished my delightful Rachael Ray mag. It's chock full of good recipes. Toward the end of last year I discovered my favorite book of the bible is James. I was in the Christian bookstore looking through the sales (I love bookstore sale racks. Conventional and Christian. They're full of good books that just haven't sold. I've found so many books I never would've read if they weren't now $6 or less.) and found Get R.eal: Don't Just B.elieve It- Do Something About It. It's an interactive Bible study based on the book of James. And it cost something like $4. I was ecstatic and I'm loving it. It makes me so thoughtful. I keep hearing and reading all of these messages that tie into the same thing. Even when I just open my Bible to a random place and start reading, the same theme arises. "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." Psalms 27:14. So much so that the other day I just started laughing, looked up and said, "Ok God! I get it!" Still working on PATIENTLY waiting but I'm getting it together. I'm a work in progress.
I'm also reading a free book from work. This one I love, too. It's very timely with the frenzy surrounding the presidential primaries. Does anyone else see Hillary cracking? She's seeing her dream die daily. It's kind of sad but I called this one long ago before she even officially announced. She's too fragmented a figure. People either love her or hate her. There's very little middle ground. Of course I fall in the middle ground. It's called I really don't care but I don't have a good feeling about her. I was a big Bill fan but his wife? Not so much. I like people with charisma. That's why I did not like K.erry or G.ore. Bor.ing. They didn't capture me at all. I was very disappointed in my first and second presidential election choices. I used to like John Mc.Cain (I don't do partisan politics. I look at all of the candidates and decide who most follows what I believe is best for the nation.) but he won't stop beating this dead horse called the war in Iraq. (But did you even read that and see that the Iraqis said they would be ready to take over by the end of 2006!!!!! 2006!!! That was more than a year ago!!) That makes you out in my book. No indeed.
Back to the book. It's called Memo to the Preside.nt Elect: How We Can Rest.ore America's Reputatio.n and Leadership by Bill Clin.ton's S.ecretary of State M.adeline Albri.ght. It just came out today. (I'm such a baller.) I'm only 44 pages in and very intrigued. As you can imagine, you likely won't approve if you lean very far to the right, but it includes some good presidential history as well. That's all for now. Holla!
*Wait! One of my fellow Hamptonians is trying to win a dream wedding. Watch her fiancee's fabulous proposal. Grab the tissues (and drool over her fab outfit) and vote! You can watch the rest but really there's no point. Even without me knowing her (I LOVE I LOVE I LOVE MY Q-T-V! Yes I know that makes no sense to non-Hampton folk.) marginally only 2 of the other proposals even come close.

SWITCH!* (Updated)
The throat ebola is still rockin hard except now it's moved to my nose. I was about to do a dance for the S.udafed 12-hr except I woke up with a disgusting cough that wouldn't stop for about a minute. That is a long time to cough! I'm such a horrid sick person. I gave y'all a break yesterday but I still feel like trash. I think I have a fever today. Where's X so she can tell me about all this stuff I took? I'ma need her to come out of hiding. I could always call poppa Stace since he's a pharmacist, too. And not even the street kind! I'm the walking dead right now after 4 hours of sleep. I will be going to urgent care today. Enough is enough! Sick be gone! Get thee behind me head/throat ebola!
"I love Rachael Ray. Isn't she wonderful?" MY DAD SAID THIS!! I do what I can to add to the conversion. We were watching "30 Minute Meals" the other day. He said he's gonna call up his g.f. and let her know he's leaving her for Rach. I said, "I'll call her for you." I'm so helpful!! He said, "I thought you liked her." "Not as much as Rachael Ray!!" Duh Dad. Out with the old, in with the new. New stepmommy I will welcome you with open arms. Now get in the kitchen! That's real love.
*I went to the doctor. Turns out I have a virus. No work tomorrow. Rest, fluids, C.laritin and a nasal spray. I. am. so. sleepy!!

Econ
Sophomore year in high school we had to read something over the summer. One of those boat stories, a Greek one, and I think Oedipus Rex. I didn't bother. It just looked boring. No thanks. The first day of class there's a quiz. Great! So I make the people at the table tell me everything they remember about what they read. They do. I get 100 and they all get varying grades from 87 to 94. HILARIOUS! That was the highlight of my 10th grade English career right there. It's pretty much the only thing I remember. I know we had a student teacher who we loved far more than the actual teacher.
I never had a problem reading the assigned stories in my classes from a young age. Usually I liked them. All Quiet on the Western Front, Don Quixote. Liked those. Siddhartha, Things Fall Apart. Couldn't stand those. Worst of all? Anna Karenina!!! 27 (out of more than 900) pages about a field of wheat? Shoot me now. Most of the people in my 12th grade AP English class didn't even bother to finish it. I did just so I could say I did but I kicked and screamed the whole way. Very uncharacteristic. I like to read so much that just about anything will do. That's why I love getting the free books at work. Score! We did get one about the Americas and the Middle East. Pass and yawn. It's something like 900 pages. I started to try to read it but it's not worth the effort. Returning that to the newsroom to pass on to someone else who won't read it tomorrow.
When I got to college, I was determined not to flunk out. I'd convinced myself it wouldn't be this easy anymore!! (Mike, Corey and Marcus became my partners because they went to the library as much as I did. Sunday through Thursday for at least 2 hours. I stopped after freshman year. Time to party!! Lol. But mostly because in journalism, you can't read about it, you have to do it so the library was pointless for me.) I failed to notice that all of the classes were very entry level and very basic. All those classes that have no pre-requisite that are pointless. College math I and II? I took AP Stats in high school. This was essentially geometry, Algebra I, and trigonometry. I should've tested out of those ridiculous classes but thanks for the A+ GPA boosters. I started tutoring people in that and French. I did French homework for two of my friends just so I could keep the language in my head. Journalism majors weren't required to take a foreign language.
Enter econ aka bastion of my existence. Senior year at Hampton. Very, very basic econ class. This, like most math and science classes required for journalism and English majors, was so basic people in those majors didn't even take them. Yeah. It was basically econ for dummies. Have you ever been in a class where you're looking around wondering how all the idiots don't get this? Like why are they so stupid!?!?
The first day, the professor is going over some principle, covering the board with it. There are circles and arrows and numbers and letters. He gets to the end and asks, "Is there anyone who doesn't understand that?" 18/20 people raised their hands. HILARIOUS!! Yes, I was one of them. STU.PID. I have never felt so slow in all my life. No matter how many notes I took, no matter how much after class one-on-one sessions, I was like I will REJOICE over a C in this class. I think I actually ended up with a B because so many of us were just clueless. He got to the point where he was like if you can MEMORIZE the basic principles of economics I will let you pass above a C. Lol. That poor teacher. No I don't know any of them so don't ask!

Fed Up: A Walk Through My Mindspace
I'm so annoyed with blogging right now. I guess it would be more accurate to say bloggERS. I know everyone does not have unlimited time. Some people have lives off of these screens. For now I'm not one of those people. That means I expect to have something to read and something to do. Some people have posted twice in 2 days. Some have posted twice in 2 weeks. The consistently posting twice in 2 months folk? I've been CONSISTENTLY deleting you. Especially if you don't come over here and share the love. Y'all know I need attention. I'm not an only child but I was for 19 months.
More blogs got deleted today despite the fact that I've been reading some of them for more than a year now, maybe 2. I know its ridiculous to hand down blog edicts, but really, they don't call me the blog bully for no reason. It's who I am. ThisiswhyI'mhot. (You're supposed to read that the way whatever rapper it is who is responsible for that song (I don't care enough to look it up) does so it seems mid-sentence, then keeps going.) I suppose part of the reason I'm going all blog postal is because I've been on my daily post grind for 2 months now. Is that not enough to make anyone crazy? I was thisclose to deleting all but about 10 of the blogs currently on my roll. I need suggestions. The blogger must post regularly-- at least 3xs a week. Yes, I know I'm being bratty. No, I do not care.
Sandy and Red are really taunting me by joining Blog365-- a plan to
I've always had a mild infatuation with that date. As in why that one? Who chose February 29th as opposed to August 32nd? Plus if you're born on that date? Extra special! They even have their own society! Very cool. Though it's stupid when people say things like, "You're really only 4" or something to that effect. Really? That always made me roll my eyes. I was such an indignant child. I have this thing about numbers and dates. I like even numbers (making it odd that I like 2/29) which means my own birthday slightly disappoints me because it's on the 23rd. Ooh! Most of all though, I like multiples of 5. I'm 25, 2008 is an even year. It should be fabulous, right? 25 sounds like the most fantastic age to me right now.
I once (in first grade no less when we all got those "Smoke-Free Class of 2000 shirts) thanked my mom for having me in 1982 because WHAT AN AMAZING YEAR TO GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL!! (I'd previously been disappointed not to be born in a more round year like 1980... IN FIRST GRADE!! I never said I wasn't quirky.) My poor mother. I remember her saying "You're welcome." I don't remember an odd look but if I have a child like that I will definitely be utilizing the head tilt, singular eyebrow raise-- you know, the classic "WHO ARE YOU ALIEN BABY AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY CHILD!?" look. Also commonly known as the "I suppose this is what my mother meant when she said I can't wait until you have your own children" look.
I know this is all over the place but I'm allowed because my body is rebelling against me in more than one way right now. I have throat ebola (self-diagnosis). I've determined this because I woke up this morning feeling like a microscopic man had been ice skating inside my esophagus all night long. It didn't help that I chattered incessantly at work today. I couldn't help it. Despite the body issues I was in a pretty good mood. I tried the free L.ipton's tea at work this morning. Yuck. Even with sugar it didn't make me feel any better. I got home and tried my stand-by: B.igelow's English Breakfast Tea. YUM!! Even the color is better.
[Yet another tangent (this is getting a bit ridiculous)]:
The blacker the berry the swee.ter the juice/the darke.r the flesh then the deeper the roots. I loooooove that song. Did I tell you one of my coworkers said TuPACK? PACK. That's T.upac, dear. Like chicken pox? Sigh. Why do I have to go through these sorts of things and use these sorts of comparisons to help you understand? This is not an obscure rapper. COME ON!!
Back to the lecture at hand: I also don't do flavored teas. I REALLY don't do Long Island Iced Teas. I know this next part will get my southern belle card revoked but... I also don't do iced tea unless its raspberry iced tea and even that's a stretch. If there's any other choice, I'll have that. Supposedly my mom makes fabulous tea because that and her lemonade are always requested at picnics, etc. Only hot English breakfast for me, please, if I must drink tea. Ear.l Grey is okay, too. That was a bit of a problem for my coworkers when we went to a tea and that's what I wanted. I know you like orange marmalade but really? No. BTW, traditional tea food? Not for me. GIVE ME REAL FOOD!! This is also why generally I don't do tapas. I need actual portions, not a sampler platter. Thanks. Anyway. My tea homie B(igelow) hooked it up. My throat felt better after the first sip. It also tasted better even without anything but a splash of milk. I think I'll just continually pour it down my throat for the rest of my weekend.
Have I ever told you how obsessed I am with drinks? Of any kind, not just alcoholic. Today in an effort to calm my screeching throat (with the "sexy" rasp LMAO!!), I've already had at least a gallon of water. I finish one glass in five minutes but the effect doesn't last nearly as long as this tea. It's so soothing I'm considering having my 3rd mug in 10 minutes. I also love lemonade, cranberry juice (not cranberry juice cocktail), orange juice. I like milk and egg nog. I do NOT like apple juice. Disgusting. Or sports drinks of any kind. They taste like watery cough syrup. Have you tired of the random yet? I have. Time to go to sleep. STAY AWAY MICROSCOPIC ICE SKATING MAN!!
*Still battling that jerk. MY THROAT BOX HURTS!! I did find out, though that my lemon sorbet soothes the throat so score for that!

Project Runway!!
Before I get to itemizing the show, the T.onight Show returned as well sans writers. We all know how violently I feel about the strike. That would be very. Yes, very. Can we stop it with all the shows about models? I mean really. It's getting out of control. I will repeat this. I would say only one more time but there are no new talks planned so I may say it 300 more times (God forbid): END THE STRIKE!! Sigh. I've never wanted scripted tv so bad in my life. Ever. I guess because it was never not an option. I did catch a preview of "M.illionaire M.atchmaker" that wasn't bad. The T.onight Show seemed pretty much the same-- at times completely unfunny. Whatever. PR TIME!!! Proceed with caution if you haven't seen it. This is what you call a spoiler.
"It wasn't like it was ugly because he made it using a wedding dress. It was ugly because he made a whole new dress and it was ugly." Teeny tiny gay 12-year-old Ch.ristian talking about S.teven who lost last week's competition. HILARITY!! I also don't really like how this is also a model competition and how they select the models. I don't know how I would want them to improve the selection process but they should. Until Chris picked Marc.ia, I thought they were gonna send both of the black girls home and I was about to get pissed.
"Where's your pajamas with the feet in them?" Chris to T.im Gunn. I bet they're edible, too. I love the producer, editor or production assistant who picked the nat sound (thank God for spell check-- that's what tv types refer to as natural sound-- kind of like background noise) of someone burping, then saying "Let's Go." Hilarious. This challenge is to use the stuff in a candy store. An outfit out of chocolate? I'm like Christ.ian, wryly, "Great." I don't even like chocolate that much and I really hate playing with food. I especially can't stand being sticky. I have a tendency to obsessively wash my hands rather than have dirty ones.
I didn't even think of pillows and such. I'm disgusted by the sight of them scrambling for materials. They did the same thing the first challenge of the season. It just looks so bargain basement. I have a friend who doesn't like what she calls "panty tables." You have to hear her hilarious southern accent to get the full effect. She hates seeing tables covered in panties with people pawing through them. Don't ask me how she would prefer to buy underwear. I'm always too busy dying laughing to ask. You know what else I don't like? Box sales. I do not have the sort of patience required to shop out of a box. Especially if there are more than 5 people in the store. I usually just skip those and head right to the racks.
I do like them tossing around the candy in the work room. That's quite amusing. I do NOT like that Ji.llian just grabbed a giant bar of chocolate bare-handed. I'm going to vomit. Some people's things look really cool. Looking at E.isa's dirty dirty feet is disgusting. Wow!! She got hit by a car in London and split her head open several inches. That is a crazy story! I'm shocked that she's still on this show and not really looking like the bottom. How is this possible when it looked "like her model was pooing fabric"??? LMAO @ C.hristian critiquing everything like a baby Tim because he's done.
Wait. Just wait!!!! I'm now looking at E.lisa's. Very, very, extremely, incredibly WHAT.THE.BLOODY.BLUE BLAZES? Giant puffy shiny metallic sleeves. I can't. Ram.i's looks super cool. Tim just told Sweet P. her stuff looks like a maxi pad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dead. I know not how I can continue. J keeps talking about how she's in really bad shape. That means she won't lose. It's always the over confident ones. This worries me for C.hristian but I think I like his. They're not really showing the finished product.
CHRISTI.AN!! You are so loose today. Even more so than usual. "It is a tranny mess up in here." I can't. Love Chris Mar.ch holding the twizz.ler like a cigarette. I was just telling Stace how brainwashed we are into thinking cigs are classy. It's ridiculous. Cigarette holders? I hate cigs but I so need one of those in my life. What could I put in it instead of cigs? Chris.tian just perfectly described the sleeves on E.lisa's dress: like children's water floaties. Yes. Just like that. I'm a bit surprised to like J.illian's t.wizzler creation. M.Kors on E.lisa's creation, "It looks like a silver shower cap on her arm." Yes. Yes it does. N.ina Garci.a on SweetP, "Comparatively it looks sad." But not E.lisa bad. I would like to thank the judges for wholeheartedly sharing most of my opinions today. Somebody is wrong for us hearing MK saying about Chr.is' garment, "It was very elegant" or something like that and then showing him stuffing his face with chocolate!!
E.lisa out. But do you understand I've been waiting essentially my entire life for this? I wanted her out from day one. Holla. As she leaves what does she say? "I'm gonna wander off now." I think that is so very indicative of her personality. Wander off? Um. Okay. Well you do that then.
NO!! Next week more tears from R.icky. UGH!! Please tell me he's next. (But if you have to cry and cut.... LMAO!! I hope there are no more partner/team/group projects. I don't want to see 3 designs. I want to see 9. Thanks.)
*Completely unrelated but I used to hate creamed corn and now I think I love it.

Classic Jameil: Beetnik
I've never had brussel sprouts because neither of my parents like them. Score there so I hear. I have only once heard a positive thing about a brussel sprouts. Back to that night many years ago, my sister and I ate everything on our plates but the beets. Mommy was not playing that night. She said, "You will sit at that table until you clean your plate." CHALLEEEEEEENGE!!
You know what the kid was thinking: I will sit at this table all night if I have to!! My sister was likely thinking some version of that but only lasted about 30 minutes. You know how long I lasted? 2 hours. So long that my mother finally told me to get up and leave the table. LOVE IT!!! That is one of the proudest moments of my childhood. Lol. What does that say about me?
At Sev.iche Stace and I instantly ruled out one preparation because it had beets in it. AAAANT! Wrong... WRONG! J-meezy is not down for the beets. Still. Keep it movin!

GET ME OUT OF HERE!!
Today after the gym, I brought home BostonM.arket for me and dad. Yum. We also sat and chatted in a Daddy-Daughter day type way. I always ask him a lot of questions about his life. I'm piecing it together. He moved to Charlotte after graduating from high school, then joined the AirF.orce, traveled a bit, then moved back to his hometown, Rowland, NC. We're watching "TheWhol.e10Yar.ds" and enjoying glasses of wine. Well, he's enjoying it. It's red which I usually find to be bitter and disgusting. Today is not an exception. First drink of the new year. I was about to go to work not long after ringing in 2008. My toast? With water. *shudder*

T.Y.I.R.
Side note:
Stace is a domestic goddess so she's making us breakfast again. For lunch we're going to a Pittsburgh institution: Primant.i's. If anyone ever offers you a Pittsburgh-style sandwich, that means it comes with slaw and french fries... on it. I always pull the fries off. Ordering them on the side is frowned upon. Don't upset the natives and all that. Then I have to take her to l'aeroport. Nooooooooo!! There is only one upside to this. I will finally get some sleep! I've gotten 7 hours in the last 2 days. The only reason I'm as sane as I am (despite the fact that Rashan said all bloggers are crazy. WHO YOU CALLIN CRAZY!?!) is because I regularly get at LEAST 7 hours of sleep nightly. Yeah... And actually I never regularly got that much before in life because I love going to bed late (see: 4 a.m.) and waking up late (see: after noon). The turns life takes. I can't wait to get back on that schedule ever again in life.
Regularly scheduled programming:
I have 3 weddings already so far. A coworker in Vegas in April at the B.ellagio, a cousin in May in H.iltonHead, SC, another cousin in September in Charlotte. This time last year I didn't know about the wedding that was in August so who knows how many more ceremonies I'll accrue in the next 12 months. I also have 2 graduations. My sister from undergrad and my line sister from S.yracuse's journalism school. Sigh.
Have I ever told you guys how much I can't stand graduations? They bore the crap out of me. Long, lots of talking about stuff no one cares about. STOP SPOUTING YOUR PLATITUDES AND GIVE ME MY SHEET OF PAPER!! If you love me, you wouldn't ask me to go to your ceremonies. I talked the entire way through both of mine. It was really bad in college because you know how smaller schools within the university are close knit. The journalism majors had had classes together for at least 3 years. Cuttin. Up. It was actually fun. And our 4-year class dictator president gave the most memorable speech. Good times.
Anyway, the point is, anything could happen in the next year. I'm just glad to be able to see another one should I make it to 2008. No matter what happens, I will learn, grow and love. It will be great. Adios oh-7, Hello oh-8!

Suh-Leepy!!
Today after I got off of work, I came back to the crib (after getting a text from Stace saying my dad was here. Uhhh... dad... can you give folk some warning? Because we were show nuff spread out everywhere and using your room! Lol) to get the small one. We head to one of my fave local breakfast spots. Stace got the square breakfast. I got the omelet ranchero-- ham and cheese with salsa, potatoes and wheat toast. Both of us got hot chocolate, too. Yummy.
After that, we headed to the UniversityofP.ittsburgh, CarnegieMel.lonUniversity, and a few city neighborhoods for a drive around. We also drove past Pittsburgh's ridiculously ginormous high school. That thing looks like an institution and has more than 1600 students. It can probably comfortably hold 2500. At least. She leaves tomorrow. Waaaaaaaaaah. This trip made me realize how little (see: nothing) I regularly do. So pitiful. I need to do something with my life other than work, church, and gym. Know what I'm excited about though? The end of 2007!! Good riddance to bad rubbish!

The Fabulosity Is A Bit Tiring
Our day starts of course with television. Then we head to the grocery store to get the makings for breakfast and dinner for the next few days. We come back to the crib, cook and eat breakfast while listening to BlackStar on dad's fabulous sound system. I'm looking around and taking inventory and realizing how thoroughly we've taken over this townhouse. Very funny. I was like, I'm kind of glad my dad isn't here because we would have to tame all this fabulous girlness and who wants that? Clearly NO ONE!!
After breakfast, we blog, watch more tv, then head to bed. That's right!! Nap time! You can't take two fabulous ladies who ordinarily wake up insanely early in the morning, and whose body clocks insist on following those patterns as closely as possible regardless of our schedules and expect them to party like rock stars without a nap. Real ballers take naps, kid.
After our naps, we get dressed. She's rockin' the dark denim trousers and black shirt dress. I'm with the black and white tweed with silver metallic threading and black high neck sweater. I accidentally spill the beans on the surprise... her new love is seviche, so that's the name of the place we're going! It's downtown and everyone I asked about it said it's THE hot spot in Pittsburgh right now. We get there and I can absolutely see why. Bright lights, Spanish music, Cuban food. It belongs on South Beach. I order a caipirinha because I've been hearing about them since forever when I came back from Miami and could not get enough of these food styles! I love that fabulous city. That drink is my new second love.
If you like sushi, but have never had seviche, do yourself a favor and get thee some immediately. It's raw fish but "cooked" in an acid, usually lemon or lime juice. I'm a fan of lime juice so I prefer mine with the aforementioned. As soon as I sat down and got my drink I said, "I'm so glad I'm here with you Stace! Everyone couldn't appreciate this restaurant." So true and so us. It was tapas so everything was a small portion designed to be eaten in a few bites. I got the Cuban pulled pork with a Cuban hash and tomatillo and curried mango seviche with hamachi (yellow tail). DELICIOUS!!
Stace got a trio with sangria blanco (one of her fave drinks) (read about it here) and loved it, especially the Asian Tartare with ahi tuna. Wanna know why? Read the description. "Seasoned with soy sauce, scallions, sesame oil and capers. Served on sushi rice and nori rolls with white truffle oil wasabi mayonnaise and Tobiko caviar." Yeah. Get there. Love in your mouth. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to escape from Pittsburgh. We were so enthralled that we ordered another trio to share. This time with ahi, langostino which the restaurant industry bills as miniature lobster but really isn't. It was a very uninspiring taste. The preparation was delightful. I'm not a fan of langostino.
I also got a strawberry mimosa champagne mojito. First, that name is redundant. Mimosas have champagne. That's part of the definition. Then our silly waitress, whatever her name was, decided to say, "You know that has champagne in it, right?" Really? Why do people always try me? I looked at her like, "Duh stupid." And she says, "I'm just making sure." Please go get my drink. I didn't think you could get better than a mojito, champagne and strawberry puree. I was wrong. Not tasty at all. Blech. I should've gotten a regular mojito. Overall, a fabulous experience and atmosphere. Stace took most of the pics here so you'll have to wait a bit on those.
Next, we head to the AndyWarholMuseum. I know I like museums and I know I like art but seriously? I did not expect to be so utterly and completely awed in there. Stace and I were slack jawed through all 7 floors. A.MA.ZING. The feature was work from RonMueck with larger than life-sized, extremely detailed people. You definitely want to click on those links and, if you get a chance, see it in person. Fantastic. I can't even describe it. There was a room with neon lights which was insane. My eyes were not a fan. "100LiveAndDie" was the only one I liked enough to look at more than 3 seconds, if that. Stace, aka person with the attention span of a gnat, was in love. All the flashing lights had her beatific. Let me not forget the quote on the B.ody/Booty exhibit. "I don't think you're ready for this jelly. I don't think you're ready for this 'cause my body's too bootylicious for ya babe." Are you serious? I can't even escape Beyoncizzle at a museum!?! Sigh.
After theWarhol we really could've ended our night because those two things were just. so. sigh. Love, love, love. Instead of heading home, we dropped in the bar S.oho. We walked in, didn't even get in the door because we could see there weren't any fabulous people in there. Next! I drove Stace around the North Shore so she could see HeinzField where the S.teelers play and PNCPark where the P.irates play. She loved both. Plus they're right on one of Pittsburgh's 3 rivers so there's a fantastic view. Next up, OliveOrTwist Martini Bar. We look around. Completely devoid of color. Not a black, brown or other face in the space. The music in the upstairs lounge was kind of hot and the decor was up to par, but it was utterly barren (maybe because it was only about 10:15) so we left. Next! (How fabulous is all the bar hopping? Don't you love it?)
We hit BossaNova and instantly know this is the place. We see non-regular-looking black folk and a good mix. Then I start recognizing faces. There are about 25 S.teelers in there. Because I'm work in news and am constantly cutting sound bites with these guys, I know all their names and faces. It's quite bizarre. Especially because I'M A PANTHERS FAN!! Sigh. At least I don't have to cover the P.atriots. That would turn me into a cutter. In the cold and surrounded by the most obnoxious team and fans in professional sports. What a slow, painful death.
Anyway so in this bar we walk past the players and get a bit of attention "Hey." "Ooh." "Alright." Whatever. We move past to a space on the bar. It's right next to the table where the backup quarterback Charl.ieBatc.h is set up with 4 or 5 girls who instantly grill us. Girl please. It's never that serious. If you have to do all that, you don't have him. Remember the horrid fake Louis from Thursday night? The woman's monogram bag with metallic flower embroidery more than made up for that one. I don't even really like monogram bags but it was insanely gorgeous. If I were to carry one it would likely look like that. I order a strawberry margarita.
Looks pretty but not delicious. Stace gets a chocolate martini and loves it.
She orders another. I get a mojito. Sigh. Don't have it on your menu if your bartenders don't know how to make it. The mint wasn't properly muddled and after one sip, I realized he'd left out the sugar. Not acceptable. I kept getting nearly whole mint leaves through my straw. He left one of our drinks off of our tab. Yeah. You needed to. Nice guy, not the best drinks. We leave and decide to head to the job so she can see it. My two fave job homies are there working away as I introduce around. We walk around and she's awestruck by all the tvs and computers. She made me sit down and stage actual work. Lol. She took a few pics, on the set, and in front of the chroma key, which most people call "the green screen." She's so funny. After that we head home and watch BadBoys2 as I cook french fries. Mmmm. Fantastic night!! Today is just a chill day. Relaxing at the house watching a ProjectRunway marathon!!!!!!!!! right now with a belly full of breakfast (looove breakfast). Heaven. Too bad I'm still limping from all the work I put in on the dance floor Thursday. Lol.

Killin' This City
We woke up at the crack of dawn. Wait. It was 630 and it's winter, so before dawn cracked yesterday. Cooked breakfast: egg nog french toast, sausage, toast. Mmmmm. We kept meaning to take a nap, but one, two, three hours later we were still engrossed in the "BiggestLoser" marathon. There's nothing like watching tv with someone who shares most of your style philosophy. Yay etc. Though that wasn't a specific style show, it's fun to watch. Very inspiring. It's like if someone who weighs 407 lbs. can motivate himself to get to the gym on a regular basis (albeit with a trainer and no other distractions), why can't I?
We finally drug ourselves from the screen and took short naps. I decided we should probably unplug ourselves... you know, maybe NOT go to the movies and do something NOT involving a screen. That meant no "GreatDebaters." Maybe another day. We started our day outside the house at 7:30pm. Lol. We went shopping and hit pay dirt at the first store.... that's right Amber! Nine West!! Small tangent... I loved one pair so much that I had a photo shoot today. I couldn't help it.

After shopping, we went to Kiku for sushi. Because I'm not familiar with sushi, it took me for.ev.er to find something to eat. I remembered from the last time we ate sushi that I liked the eel, but I couldn't really remember what else. I thought I didn't like tuna or salmon. I can't remember which one. I just know it was some regular fish that you eat that I didn't like as sushi. Stace finally said, "Why don't you just get the Steeler.roll?" BECAUSE IT'S CALLED THAT!! But it was eel and avacado, two things I very much approve of so I bit the bullet and this is what came out.

How good does that look? It tasted even better. I woke up thinking about that sushi and I don't even do sushi like that. Stace on the other hand is a sushi fiend. She got three rolls including the rainbow.roll with tuna, whitefish and salmon.
After Ki.ku, we rode the incline up to Mount Washington. Here's the fabulous view.

Unfortunately, pictures don't really do it justice. So fabulous. Stace and I oohed and ahhed the entire time. Then it was bar hopping time!! Yay! I took her to J.ack's because it's a typical Pittsburgh bar. I needed her to understand what I have to deal with. Next was R.umshaker's for the same reason. Super wack. Some lame dude also tried to get in our picture and Stace shut him down. We took pics at every spot which was hilarious.
Then we headed to Cars.on City Saloo.n. Horrid music. Next. Then we went to D.iesel. Fabulous decor, not horrible music... empty. The bouncer had warned us but still. He said Friday and Saturday are the good days for the club. Right. But we have limited time in this city. That means we are not heading anywhere twice. Not even to eat. Sorry dude. Shut that down. As we're heading to TownTavern, we see my coworker. He shouts me out from across the street. He tells us to head to Elix.ir so that's where we go. We like the music and decor so we stay. The dj is so much better than a small club in Pittsburgh. He could definitely mix in a major city. The coworker buys us drinks. Tan.queray and tonic with a lime for me! Vodka and pineapple for the little one.
How fab do we look? Love it. Stace has on her "Z.oolander" "I'm a model, idiot" face on. Get it Stace!! LMAO!! Why did we have groupies everywhere? One girl was sitting on the wall with two of her friends grillin us the whole time. Then when they got up to leave one "accidentally" brushed up against me a little too close. Oh honey. Don't be jealous. Wait. Do. I understand. These Indian dudes stared from across the room, then from about 5 feet, then leaned in and said, "You're a really good dancer." Thanks. Then he asked Stace to dance. When he started gettin her with the honky tonk-esque dance I had to grab her and say, "No. I can't let you go out like that." Stop the violence... against dance.
One girl forced Stace to ask, "Where are her friends?" A big bouncer-looking dude cleared a space so she could roll around tucking and rolling all over the floor, doing splits, getting up, stumbling and doing it again. Stop. It. Drunk. Girl.
Two more stalkers appear. This time girls. "OMG, you guys are so awesome!! You look amazing!!" One with her super fake white with colored logo "Louis.Vuitton"... let me tell you how horrible this knock-off was. It just had the logos, no attempt at the monogram. Horrendous!! She asks Stace, "Can you teach me some moves?" Really? Wait. It gets better. "I'm starting a club. Are you professional dancers? Do you guys dance, or sing or act? Gospel? Spoken word?" GOSPEL?! In the club. And do we look like your little monkeys? This is not an act and it does not go on the road. No ManTan and Sleep&Eat here. Ridiculous. Some people don't know how to act. And at the risk of being stuck up, I'm not going to the club of a person who would deign to wear such an obviously fake bag. No. You'll probably have paisley covered walls with leopard print pony hair chairs and that I cannot do. I'm allergic to tacky. It makes me itch.
After at least an hour and a half, we decided to bounce, go home and chill before we fell asleep around 3... still up at 7:30. BASTARD BODY CLOCKS!! Don't doubt that I'm taking a real nap today. It's not a game. Tonight is the surprise restaurant. I'm super excited about that one.
