Help a Sista Out

Guess who wore a thick, black, cable-knit, long-sleeved sweater this morning? Yeah. That would be me. Know why? Because it was 38 degrees this morning. 38!!! ON MAY 7TH!!! I made a petition to boycott the weather back when it was cold as all hell. The high today is 71, tomorrow the high is 75 I think, but the low tonight is 45. Scuse me!! God? Can I get some real May temps? Love the 70s, you know this, but the 30s in May? I really can't get with it.

My line sister, fantastic and ambitious as she is, is creating a book club for when she moves to Syracuse in the fall for grad school (she wants to be the editor-in-chief of a magazine (see what I mean by fantastic and ambitious?)). She needs a name. So help. Here's what she said about it "(For) women on the graduate level. Probably age 23 and up. Whatever the name is, I would like to call it a literary society because free black women during the time of slavery called their reading groups that. I really just want it to have some fun name that doesn't sound like something you'd have to do a whole lot of extraneous work for. I want it to be a reading group for Black women to relax and acheive personal improvement." Out of this world. Help her out.

On an unrelated note, I love this commercial.

Cracks me up. "That's what's s... n-f." Hilarious. Because I work in tv, I see probably millions of commercials a year. Sometimes I wish I was exaggerating but I see a lot. At least 1/2 a million. I won't go any lower so don't try to make me!!! I realized I'm so used to a million tvs being on at once that I probably watch/listen to about 70 hours of tv a week. See why not watching tv is odd to me? Not not watching tv is odd, its more that people act like they're superior when they say they don't. Boooooooo. That doesn't make you smarter. I still read like a fiend. But I used to watch just MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYBE 15 hours per week. And that may be a stretch.

HaHa I rolled over in bed at 11am this A.M. and was chilly. I'm like either it's cold outside or something's wrong in this here apartment. Seems the bathroom window was left open to let the night air in, the overhead fan was also on, and it was just starting to warm up. I'mma need consistent 70s till I leave the East Coast.

How about the friend name the society after an accomplished author like Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, someone whose literary work or essence or example could represent the ideals of the group. Or she could use an acronym like The GRITS Book Club does.

Ok, I LUUUURVE that commercial! It cracks me up... the little girl is all "Um... my bff Jill?"

That and the cingular ads where the call drops - my forever favorite will always be where the brotha is like, "Cat got your tongue? EARL got your tongue?"

As fas as a title for your ls' book club (and I love the idea of "Literary Society"), maybe something pertinent to the types of books she plans to read? ... unless it's any and all...

Either Move south or stop whining about Pittsburgh Weather. It is what it is. (said the Pittsburgh native who woke up to the AC being on because it never did get below 77 last night)

No dice on the Book Club name...ID suggest finding the First Black woman to cop a phd in literature and just name it after her.

For every major television event, I watch the commercials and determine the target audience.
For instance, for the NBA playoffs, the main people who watching it are in their mid to late 30s, balding (Rogaine Foam), unhappy with their job (monster.com) and when they search for new jobs, they drink Vitamin Water.

dp... THIS IS MY BLOG AND I TALK ABOUT WHAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT!!!! no matter where i live i will complain about the weather. its my thing. i don't like being outdoors b/c i don't really deal well with smelling like outside or being hot (temps higher than 80) or cold (lower than 30). i also don't sit outside for extended periods of time in anything other than maybe 68-77. its who i am.

v... hahahahahaha! i was tellin one of my friends she needs to stop watching lifetime and start watching espn. that's where all the good commercials are.
