You've heard about the NYC "subway hero," right? The black man, a Navy veteran, who saw a 20-year-old white guy* having a seizure, then falling onto the tracks with a train coming. The hero jumps down with his two young daughters standing nearby, rolls the man underneath the platform, saving his life.
Kyle's question: is this man a hero or should we call him what we would have called him if he'd died, stupid?
*I mention race because when I saw this story I was amazed by it. Sue me. I'm a cynic.

Yes it was risky business and if he had died, he would have been criticized, but it still takes courage to be so selfless.

Yeah, hate to throw salt on his game, but he was on some NYC morning rsdio show and he said that he didn't really jump onto the tracks. He was pushed and then decided to stay down there and help the guy. So does that change yall's opinion of the situation?

For real tho, contrary to popular belief, lots of NYers would have done what he did. It's that NY spirit. Not too many people can stand by and watch a fellow straphanger get crushed by an oncoming. In a city that big and random and unpredictable you need all the good karma you can get. lol
I think it was an heroic act, but I wouldn't call dude a hero. Helping people is what you're supposed to do, in theory anyway. And I feel old girl who commented above me. Dude better keep his trap shut before people take his money away.

In my book, the guy's a hero in life and would have been in death too, had his number been up. word.
I'd think he was a hero because he could have stood there and did nothing now what would that make him....cold hearted. Plus he'd have to live with the fact that he could have done something and he didn't.
I still say hero. I was so pleased to see him on Letterman, on CNN, saying "I did what anyone else would have done."
Good on The Donald for giving him money. And his kids getting scholarships.
Now, going TOO FAR would him writing a book or a TV movie being made. That's too much.
